9 Frame analysis of the composition

This close-up of the phone shows us this object is key to the film. It opens up the film meaning this is important to the killer as he use this to get to his victims. Killers are often associated with using objects such as phones and letters to get to their victims.

A zoom in is used on Casey to show her discomfort at the phone ringing immediately after she had put the phone down. This is common in horrors for the killers to cause discomfort with their victims before killing them.

An establishing shot is used to show where Casey lives. Her house is located out of town in a quiet place. Isolated places are commonly associated with horror movies as the victims are usually killed in isolated places away from witnesses and the police.

There is a medium-long shot of Casey pulling a knife out of its hold. These knifes are usually used by killers in slasher movies and one similar to this is used later on to murder the victims within the film.

There is a medium shot of the popcorn container cooking. The container is gradually rising up showing it is building up tension towards something. Things like this are commonly used in horror movies to build a tense atmosphere towards a killing.

A long shot is used in the house after another phone conversation. Casey begins to walk forward slowly,

showing how nervous she is. Victims are commonly associated with being incredibly nervous when speaking or seeing the killer.

A long shot of the front door is used as Casey thinks the killer is at the front door. This is stereotypical in horror movies for the killer to burst in through the front door.

A close up is used on Casey as she backs away slowly from the windows. The camera shot shows us how uncomftable Casey is having a conversation with the killer. This is stereotypical of a killer to place their victims in a position of discomfort and nervousness.

The close up of the popcorn pan used could represent tension between the killer and Casey is about to blow. It could also represent the danger towards Casey.
