•To make one pound of honey, the bees in the colony must visit 2 million flowers, fly over 55,000 miles and will be the lifetime work of approximately 768 bees.
•A single honeybee will only produce approximately 1/12 teaspoon of honey in her lifetime.
•A single honey bee will visit 50-100 flowers on a single trip out of the hive.
•Bees produce honey as food stores for the hive during the long months of winter when flowers aren't blooming and therefore little or no nectar is available to them.

Orange Blossom honey is often made from mixed citrus nectars (Citrus ssp.) including oranges, grapefruit, lemons, mandarins, tangerines, limes and many others. It is a thick, very sweet honey. Initially the aroma is of medium intensity reminiscent of orange blossoms. With time, it takes on an additional delicate fruity aroma like marmalade with slightly citric acid tones
Orange Blossom honey has a sweet and mild flavor and a light citrus fruity taste. A pollen count of Citrus species is generally targeted at 20% or higher to be labeled Orange Blossom Honey. This may seem low, but because of its naturally low pollen count, this indicates a much higher proportion of Orange Blossom nectar.

There are several varieties of honey, depending on the type of flower the bees retrieved nectar from. The flavor and color of honey differs by variety, but there is not a significant nutritional difference between types. One tablespoon of clover honey, which is a mild, light-colored honey, contains approximately 64 calories and 17 grams of carbohydrate, all of which are from sugar. Clover honey is not a significant source of fat, protein, fiber or vitamins and minerals, but it does contain a trace amount of calcium, vitamin C, potassium and zinc.

1. Prevent cancer and heart disease:Honey contains flavonoids, antioxidants which help reduce the risk of some cancers and heart disease.
2. Reduce ulcers and other disorders.Recent research shows that honey treatment may help disorders such as ulcers and bacterial gastroenteritis. This may be related to the 3rd benefit…
3. Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal:“All honey is antibacterial, because the bees add an enzyme that makes hydrogen peroxide,” said Peter Molan, director of the Honey Research Unit at the University of Waikato in New Zealand.
4. Increase athletic performance.Ancient Olympic athletes would eat honey and dried figs to enhance their performance. This has now been verified with modern studies, showing that it is superior in maintaining glycogen levels and improving recovery time than other sweeteners.
5. Reduce cough and throat irritation:Honey helps with coughs, particularly buckwheat honey. In a study of 110 children, a single dose of buckwheat honey was just as effective as a single dose of dextromethorphan in relieving nocturnal cough and allowing proper sleep.

6. Balance some elements: Honey has been used in ayurvedic medicine in India for at least 4000 years and is considered to affect all three of the body’s primitive material imbalances positively. It is also said to be useful useful in improving eyesight, weight loss, curing impotence and premature ejaculation, urinary tract disorders, bronchial asthma, diarrhea, and nausea.
Honey is referred as “Yogavahi” since it has a quality of penetrating the deepest tissues of the body. When honey is used with other herbal preparations, it enhances the medicinal qualities of those preparations and also helps them to reach the deeper tissues.
7. Blood sugar regulation:Even though honey contains simple sugars, it is NOT the same as white sugar or artificial sweeteners. Its exact combination of fructose and glucose actually helps the body regulate blood sugar levels. Some honeys have a low hypoglycemic index, so they don’t jolt your blood sugar. 8. Heal wounds and burns:External application of honey has been shown to be as effective as conventional treatment with silver sulfadiazene. It is speculated that the drying effect of the simple sugars and honey’s anti-bacterial nature combine to create this effect.
9. Probiotic:Some varieties of honey possess large amounts of friendly bacteria. This includes up to 6 species of lactobacilli and 4 species of bifidobacteria. This may explain many of the “mysterious therapeutic properties of honey.”

There is more than 20,000 species of bees and only 4 species are able to produce honey. More so, not all of the honey produced can provide benefits to humans. Not all kinds of honey taste good, some are even poisonous. How honey can be poisonous is related to two causes: a natural cause and an artificial cause. Honey produced from flowers of rhododendrons, mountain laurels, sheep laurel, and azaleas may cause condition in humans called “honey intoxication”. Its

symptoms include weakness, vomiting, dizziness, and in rare cases death. Honey can be toxic due to the artificial processing and storing.
