OCTOBER 4, 2015 TWENTY- SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

DEAR PARISHIONERS and VISITORS:

Early October is a very special time for our Holy Rosary Cathedral Parish. In the church calendar October 3 is theanniversary of dedication of Holy Rosary Cathedral. It wasdedicated on this date in 1953 and this date observed as asolemnity in the Masses here. The dedication of a Church usuallyoccurs when the mortgage is paid off.

Construction on the present cathedral started in 1899.Sacrificial giving by generations of parishioners as well as thegenerosity of the Oblate fathers finally paid down this mortgagein 1953.

We have their fine example to motivate us to continue to keepup the maintenance needs of the Cathedral and to makeimprovements so that future generations will be blessed to use thisfine building.

Project Advance helps us to work together effectively as acathedral parish to raise money for capital projects. We hope toraise $120,000 this year for Project Advance: $60,000 for theArchdiocese assessment from the Cathedral and $60,000 for ouruse at the Cathedral. Our capital projects at the Cathedral includea stair lift in the hall for wheel chairs, improvements to the churchsound system and funds for planning seismic improvements.

Presently we have collected $77,595 . Thank you to all thosewho given to Project Advance this year. We ask everyone toprayerfully consider a sacrificial gift to the 2015 Project Advanceappeal. Please see the Project Advance display in the Churchentrance for more information or call the parish office.

The other special celebration for our Holy Rosary Cathedralparish is October 7. This is the memorial of our Lady of theRosary. She is the principal patroness of our Archdiocese. Pleasekeep the needs of the Archdiocese and Holy Rosary Cathedral inmind as you pray the Rosary. Fr. Galvon

Prayer to Our Lady of the Rosary

Most holy Virgin,

you have revealed the treasures of graces

hidden in the recitation of the Rosary.

Inspire my heart with a sincere love for this

devotion, so that by meditating on the

Mysteries of our Redemption

that are recalled in it, I may gather the fruits

and obtain the special graces I ask of you,

for the greater glory of God, for your honor,

and for the good of my soul.

O Virgin Mary,

grant that the recitation of the Rosary

may be for me each day, amid my many duties,

a bond of unity in my actions,

a tribute to filial piety, a delightful refreshment,

and an encouragement to walk joyfully

along the path of my life.

Let the mysteries of your Rosary

form in me little by little

a luminous atmosphere,

pure, strengthening, and fragrant,

which may penetrate my understanding and will,

my heart and memory,

my imagination and my whole being,

so that I shall acquire the habit

of praying while I work. Amen.

Refugee Emergency Special Collection

Archbishop Miller has approved an emergency

collection for this weekend October 3 & 4 for the

Syrian refugees. He asks the faithful to respond with

financial support, volunteer action, and prayer.

government and distributed among three Catholic

refugees in their countries of asylum. They are:

·Can. Catholic Organization for Development & Peace

·Aid to the Church in Need Canada

Please use the Development & Peace Envelopes

found at the church entrance. You can also donate

directly to one of agencies listed or online at

www.rcav.org/prayer-and-humanitarian-appeals.

The Archbishop also encourages us to pray for the

Syrian people, placing their care in God’s merciful

Dichoso el que teme al Señor

Se acercan los fariseos para formular a Jesús una pregunta

con dos claras intenciones, tanto para conocer su opinión

sobre un tema controvertido, como para ponerlo a prueba;

A STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

So out of the ground the Lord God

formed every beast of the field and

every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what

he would call them; and whatever the man called every living

creature, that was its name.” (Gen 2:19) The creation story

reminds us of two important points. First, since the start, God

has put the entire world into our care. Second, stewardship

has been around since the beginning of mankind, it isn’t

something recently invented by the Church. Just as past

generations built our Church, it is now our responsibility to

continue to nurture and develop these gifts for future

generations. http://www.archstl.org/stewardship/page/bulletin-inserts
