Haunted History

• Much of Alaska has had a wild past.• I will start a short presentation on the

haunted sites of Fairbanks and continuewith some stories that are veryinteresting.

• I am doing this for a certain student whoalways asks questions. Yes, I really dolisten……

White Lady of Birch Hill

• The most notable ghost of Fairbanks isthe White Lady of Birch Hill Cemetery.

• She has been sighted since the 1930’s• She always appears in a 1900’s dress

and fancy hat.

Bartlett Hall

• The second floor of Bartlett hall tends to behaunted.

• Reportedly things go missing and you canhear footsteps.

• It is rumored to be in the location of a studentwho committed suicide in the dorms.

• It is also the floor where a student wasmysteriously murdered in the 1990s.

Skyline Ranch

• This used to be a gambling hall. Thedeceased owner seems to show upevery once in a while.

• He seems to shuffle throughout theproperty.

• He hasn’t returned recently when hewas asked to leave.

Gold Dredge No. 8

• A man was murdered in the 1970’s and wasfound floating in the reclamation pit.

• The story was that he had an affair on hisyoung wife and her brothers deep-sixed himinto the reclamation pit where he resurfacedmore than 5 years later.

• Since that time voices have beenheard.Doors open and close and people heartalking late at night. Is it haunted? Go aheadyou stay there all night!

Mile 6-8 CHSR

• Lights that look like headlights thatfollow people driving late at night.

• The lights then careen away at the lastsecond before they seem to impactpeople.

• They are less like UFOs and more like aphantom driver.

Captain Bartlett Inn

• Some of the rooms have orbs that movethrough the halls.

• Supposedly glasses sometimes movearound the bar.

• The Anchorage Supernatural groupinvestigated this haunting withinconclusive findings.

Fairbanks Memorial Hospital

• Angels appear in the and backroomshallways when a baby dies in thenursery.

• Babies can be heard in the room whenno one is there.

• The temperatures also tend to drop tobelow 60F when it happens.

Fairbanks Memorial Hospital

• There are also many stories about ahaunted hallway that the lights turn offand you hear whisperings.

• The lights only go off during certaindays.

Northern Lights Hotel• Northern Lights Hotel - This is the hotel that is across

from the courthouse.• The third floor of this building a little girl died. After

that the hotel closed off that part of the building. Thefront desk has reported getting phone calls form thethird floor room #303, a little girl saying she's lookingfor her mother and then hanging up. No one was in thethird floor.

• The Fifth floor is also haunted with a strange man withglasses who looks out of the curtains.

• The police are often called to find people and there isnobody present.

Key Bank Building

• This was once a hospital during the1918 Flu epidemic and reportedly lateat night the walls look to bleed bloodand that you can also listen to voicesand crying.

• The Catholic church the Chena from theKey Bank building also has this samestrange quality.

The Phantom Cab

• The Phantom Cab license 109 has appearedthroughout Fairbanks.

• The driver will go up to your house and poundon your door asking you to help him with hisfamily. When you refuse him he willreluctantly leave. However, when you ask thecab company they will inform you that the cabdoesn’t exist.

The TCC Building

• Supposedly several of the ladies of the nightlived and died in cabins located near thebanks of the Chena location where thepresent building now stands.

• Late at night strange things happen on thefifth floor. People feel that things follow themaround all night long. Others reported thatelevators appeared to operate and open ontheir own. People let their fear take over withthe fifth floor.

Dead Man’s Slough and thePAC

• Many people believe that the firstperson killed in Fairbanks was foundfloating facedown in the slough that islocated where the present day WVHS issituated. To this day, many believe thatthe ghost of this murdered minerappears as a white form floating abovethe audience watching the plays andconcerts that are held there.

The Disappeared Cat• There was once a Drama teacher at West

Valley who had a kitten who she brought withher to a overnight lockin in the Dewilde Theatre.

• The kitten disappeared for most of the nightand could not be found. Then early the nextmorning the kitten was found and it appeared tobe playing with someone who could not beseen.

• Sometimes students in DeWilde will see therigging move and bounce on their own. So, ifyou get detention you better be good……

The Westmark Hotel

• The present location of the Westmarkhotel used to be a house that wasplagued by the ghost of somemischievous miners. Supposedly thingswould move on their own and otherthings would be thrown all over. Nowthe ghosts only seem to bother thecooks in the restaurant.

Ryan Middle School

• The mat room at Ryan Middle school issaid to be haunted by a homelessstudent who died alone there during aChristmas break. Sometimes thewrestling coaches or wrestlers will seethe student who appears lost and talksbut does not seem to actually sayanything.

Porky the ghost

• There is another haunting that is about1 block from WVHS. The old owner wasa UDT from WWII.

• He loved pies. One night he actually puta pumpkin pie in the oven and cooked ituntil it was noticed.

• He also turned the lights on and off.

Lathrop Street Apartments

• The Lathrop Street Apartments number205 has a very angry drunken ghostwho will appear with the smell ofalcohol.

• This apartment is seldom opened.
