Few Historical Infos

• In Spring-Summer 2012 Sergio (De Rosa) and myself decided toorganize an “event” focused on fluid-structure interaction problems.

• We involved Francesco (Franco) and together we started to “focus”on the target.

• Finally, we shared the idea with some colleagues and the Committeewas:

Elena Ciappi, CNR-INSEAN, Marine Technology Research Institute,National Research Council of Italy.

Sergio De Rosa and Francesco Franco, Department of IndustrialEngineering –Aerospace Section, Università di Napoli “Federico II”.

Jean-Louis Guyader, Laboratoire Vibrations Acoustique, INSA-Lyon.

Stephen A. Hambric, Center for Acoustics and Vibration,Pennsylvania State University.

Randolph C.K. Leung, Department of Mechanical Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

The Concept

There are many conferences dealing with flow induced vibrations, structural acoustics, etc.

A completely different structure and organization.

FLINOVIA should be (and hopefully will be) the “opportunity” todiscuss and analyze scientific experiences.

The presentations should be “long-lasting” talks … enough to openpotential dialogues or information exchanges among the scientists.

The audience could have an important role in contributingsignificantly to the scientific discussion.

No registration fees (no commercial interests): the event is fullysupported by the “institutions”.

A Good Beginning

The first international symposium on Flow Induced Noise andVibration Issues and Aspects was held in November 2013 over 3 daysin Rome, hosted by the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR).

The opening lecture was given by William K. Blake.

There were 16 contributors from Italy, France, Sweden, UnitedStates of America, Canada, and China.

The scientific content truly spanned most issues and aspects of flowinduced vibration and noise (innovative experimental techniques, computational methods, reduced order models, etc.).

More than 100 people including many PHD students and post-docresearchers, industry delegates, IT Navy etc. attended this firstsymposium edition.

The first FLINOVIA was a great opportunity to gather together a diverse group of international investigators of flow-induced vibrations

and noise in an intimate setting, with a single continuous session.

This workshop model allowed for intense discussion among all participants, both during the presentations, and during breaks

and social events.

Having received many positive feedback regarding the organization and the structure of FLINOVIA, we decided to propose a second edition (thanks to Steve and PSU) and hopefully, in the future,

a third one …

The Book No proceedings; the speakers are strongly invited

to submit a paper to be collected successively in aresearch book. The Committee serves as EditorialBoard.

This second phase is important as the Symposium.

The first issue was completed in June 2014 and wasavailable on 24 November 2014: 16 chapters + apreface.

Up to date, there has been a total of 8770 chapterdownloads (more than 500 downloads per chapter).

The book was one of the top 50% downloadedebooks in the relevant Springer Collection for 2015and 2016.

All speakers and attendees received a free copy of the

FLINOVIA Book.
