Card Making with Jonil Thursday, February 26th 6:30 p.m. (Hobby Shop) Create fun cards!

Hello all, the Happenings newsletter has morphed into a terrific communication tool, so I too will add my voice. I understand from the “My InnerView Satisfaction Survey” that most of you are very happy with the services you receive at Warwick Forest, and that is great. I use the survey results to help the team decide where we should focus on improving, because there is always room for improvement. I will use this space to keep you informed of all the positive things that are happening, as well as recognize team members who go above and beyond. I am depending on you to let me know where recognition and credit is due through the Riverside Care Difference nominations. Just drop a note in the boxes located throughout our buildings or leave it with the Front Desk Receptionist. One of the most important initiatives that I want to achieve this year is to improve customer service. I am working with my team of Directors to make this happen because your happiness is of the utmost important to us. One ongoing refinement is with the Fitness Programs. The Riverside Wellness and Fitness Center began managing our programming the later part of 2014. They will continue to refine programming and offer ways to help you achieve your fitness goals. Currentfacility improvements underway this month include the resurfacing of the pool deck. The Keswick Gym is being refurbished and space for therapy services is being added to improve our Assisted Living programming and coordinate a continuum of care between therapy and fitness. How we handle the residence annual evaluations is also improving. The Director of Resident Services, Brigitte Jones, conducts annual residence reviews to identify maintenance needs in your residence. Within 90 days of the review, Brigitte will re-inspect to ensure that maintenance staff completed everything to your satisfaction. In this way, we will be on top of your residential maintenance needs, another area of importance you identified in the My InnerView Survey. Here’s to a great 2015! Ginger

The Valentine’s Day Mystery: “Murder at Denbigh Manor”l Thursday, February 12th 6:30 p.m. (Community Room)

Murder! Murder most foul! Murder in High Society! It is 1926, in a stately manor house in beautiful East Sussex, England. The elegant old home is none other than Denbigh Manor – the estate of Lord Malcolm Denbigh – the 8th Viscount of Richmond. The problem is that the grand old gentleman is no longer with us – as he was murdered on Valentine’s Day – whilst his home was full of guests visiting for Valentine’s Day festivities.

All the guests and servants had been interrogated by the local constabulary yesterday (the day after the murder). But the case was so baffling that Inspector Todd of Scotland has been called in. All the “persons of interest” – both upstairs and downstairs at the Manor – have been called together for a final cross-examination by Scotland Yard.

Be part of the detectives who solve this truly baffling mystery. What were the motives? Why was Lord Denbigh so disliked? Who would gain from his death? Why were voices raised in anger? Help solve the riddle of the Chocolates. Help Scotland Yard get their man – or woman!

Help raise awareness and save women’s lives by wearing red:

National Wear Red Day

Go Red for Women

Friday, February 6th

The month of February is a time when people show and express their love for one another. This year show yourself some love! Give your heart the Valentine’s Day gift of healthier lifestyle habits to help stay “heart healthy” for yourself and your loved ones. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cardiovascular disease (CVD) which includes high blood pressure, stroke, and heart disease, is the number one killer and leading cause of disability in both men and women in the United States. Many risk factors of CVD such as diet, physical activity, tobacco use, obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol can be controlled by implementing healthier habits.

Try out these strategies for better heart health:• Get a health check-up at least once a year, even if you feel healthy• Manage other chronic conditions well, (like diabetes)• Monitor your blood pressure• Get your cholesterol checked• Don’t smoke• Maintain a healthy weight• Exercise regularlyIf you would like an exercise plan that’s catered to your specific needs, stop by the “Body Shop” or contact me to set up an appointment.

Is your medicine cabinet filled with medications that have expired or you no longer use? Have you ever wondered how to dispose of them? Many drugs can be thrown in the household trash, but you should take these precautions before throwing them out: • Take the medication out of the original containers and mix them with an undesirable substance, such as used coffee grounds or kitty litter. That way, the medication is less appealing and unrecognizable. • Place the medications in a sealable bag, empty can, or other container to prevent the medication from leaking or breaking out of a garbage bag. • Before throwing out a medication container, scratch off all identifying information on your prescription label to protect your identity and privacy of your personal health information. • Also, the Drug Enforcement Administra-tion sponsors National Prescription Drug Take Back Days. Information can be found on www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov. When in doubt about proper disposal, talk to your Pharmacist.

A Message from...Joseph Riss, Chaplain

Chaplain Fellowship with Joseph Riss, Chaplainl Friday, Feb. 13th 3 p.m. (Manchester Lounge III)

Happy Valentine’s Day! Love is a funny thing; you give generously, but then receive ten-fold in return. True love asks for nothing in return; this is the manner in which God loves us and the manner in which God models love for us.  The Trinity is a unity created by the total self-giving of the three divine persons, each to the others, for the others, in the others. The giving of oneself to others is the very nature of God. God’s love teaches us there are people who make no demands in loving, who are not in competition with those they love. Experiencing that divine love prepares us to love more fully all those God places in our life; our family, friends and neighbors, even our enemies.Isaiah 43:4a...you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you,...Isaiah 54:10 For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the LORD, who has compassion on you.1 John 4:19 We love, because he first loved us.

Hi everyone! I have quite a bit to share with you so I’ll just jump right to it. As many of you know, Dr. Peach was here for an event we hosted to introduce new folks to Warwick Forest. Many of you indicated you would like to attend, so I have asked him to come back and offer a second discussion. The topic will be the same – Mind and Memory and will be offered onFebruary 6th at 2 p.m.. RSVP required, please call 757-886-2200, as seating will be limited. Did you know Warwick Forest is on Facebook? We invite you to “like” our page and encourage your family and friends to “like” us as well. It’s a great way to see what’s going on and enjoy the many pictures we take. Finally, congratulations to those of you who have joined CNU’s LifeLong Learning Society! We love bumping into you at their events! It is extremely important to never stop learning. As Dr. Peach reminded us during his lecture, continuing to study and gain knowledge throughout our lifetime is a great way to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and other memory related issues. Did you know that as a Warwick Forest neighbor, you are entitled to a 15% discount off tuition? That makes a full year of membership just $199.75. We encourage you to pick up a Program in the Commons library and sign up for classes today! All the best, Andrea
