Usos por el pretérito:
The preterite is used to talk about things in the past.
Use the preterite when you are talking about an action that happened once. It’s over and done with.
Más usos…. The preterite is used for actions that can be
viewed as single events.
Por ejemplo:Ella caminó por el parque.She walked through the park.Ellos llegaron a las ocho.They arrived at eight o'clock.

repeated a specific number of times, or occurred during a specific period of time.

Preterite tense is usually paired with several key words…..
- ayer = yesterday- anoche = last night- el año pasado = last year- la semana pasada = last week- el fin de semana pasado = last weekend- el otro día = the other day
Por ejemplo:

“car”, “gar”, “zar” verbos….
Verbs ending in –car, -gar, or –zar have a different spelling conjugation in the “yo” form.
1. -car = “qué” yo busqué NOT buscé
2. -gar = “gué” yo pagué NOT pagé
3. -zar = “cé” yo almorcé NOT almorzé
Other things you need to know about “car”, “gar”, “zar” verbos….
Though these special verbs may have different “yo” conjugations, the others still have the same “ar” endings as the regular preterite verbs.

There are several verbs that conjugations completely change from their original form in the preterite and are unlike other preterite words in spanish.
