Dr. Rajendra Prasad became the first President of the Republic of India. We hope his name will also be a household word in India as the first President of the Republic of India.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad was born on the 3rd December, 1884, at Ziradei, in the district of Saran in Bihar. People of Bihar are particularly proud of him. Calcutta also has reason to be proud of him. The first President of the Indian Republic passed the B. A. and the M. A. Examinations of the University of Calcutta from the Presidency College of Calcutta in 1906 and 1908 respectively. He obtained the B. A. degree with honors in English and History. Then he passed the B. L. Examination. In 1915, he passed the M. L. Examination. Later the Calcutta University conferred on him the honorary degree of D. L. in recognition of his knowledge of law.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad was born in the era when British imperialism was completely surging. Food - Drink, from wearing clothing that could be felt in almost every sphere of British imprint. But Rajendra Prasad tradition, always dhoti - kurta and wore a hat on head. He was a scholar and a brilliant man. Joint family, the youngest of the Rajendra Prasad had a pampered childhood. He was a man of strong will and generous attitude. Rajendra Prasad Kayastha family belonging to the conservative wing was short. He admitted himself that he did not eat food touched by anyone other than Brahmin used. This behavior, he was released after exposure to Gandhi

He had to court imprisonment several times in the country's cause. He was a man of plain living and high thinking. He was a friend of the common people. We know of his splendid service to the people of Bihar when a terrible earthquake devastated a great part of Bihar in 1934. Though he had received English education, he was a true Indian in manners and customs and mode of living. So he firmly supported many time-honoured ideas of this ancient land of ours.

As a teacher Renowned Rajendra Prasadji provided in various

schools as an instructor. After finishing his an M.A degree  in business economics, he also became a lecturer of British at the renowned Langat Singh Higher education in the area Muzaffarpur city , state Bihar and also went on to become the major. In addition, later on he was remaining the school for his lawful research. However In the year of 1909, while seeking his law research in city of Kolkata area he greatly proved helpful as Professor of Economics at city Calcutta Town Higher education. In addition, in the year of 1915, Shri Prasadji showed up in the evaluation of Experts in Law, approved the evaluation and won a silver honor. In addition, He then finished his awaiting Doctoral in Law degree.

In the famous season of 1916, he especially signed up with the Great Judge of state Bihar as well as Orissa state. Moreover, later in 1917 season, he was hired as one of the first associates of the senate and Distribute of the Patna School. However, He used to exercise law at local Bhagalpur area, the popular silk area of state Bihar, country India. In spite of roaring practice at the Patna High Court, he decided to become modest political worker.

When Mohandas Gandhi arrived in Bihar in 1917 to assist the peasants in Champaran, Prasad soon joined in this activity, becoming a lifelong disciple of Gandhi. Following Gandhi's lead, Prasad joined the Indian National Congress and participated in the non-cooperation campaigns of 1919 and 1921-1922. Forsaking his law practice almost entirely, he became principal of the National College in Bihar, edited nationalist papers, and mobilized peasant support for the movement. During the internal split in the Congress during the 1920s, he was a spokesman for the No-Changer group, which whole-heartedly supported Gandhi's constructive program, particularly the production of indigenous cloth (or Khadi) by hand spinning.

The arrival of Mahatma Gandhi on the Indian national scene greatly influenced Dr. Rajendra Prasad. While Gandhiji was in Bihar to address grievances of local peasants, Dr. Rajendra Prasad met him. Initially, he was not impressed with Gandhiji's appearance or conversation. In time, however, he was deeply moved by the dedication, conviction and courage that Gandhiji displayed. He decided that he would do everything he could to help, with his skills as a lawyer and as an enthusiastic volunteer. Gandhiji's influence greatly altered many of his views. He reduced the number of servants he had to one, and sought ways to simplify his life. He no longer felt shame in sweeping the floor, or washing his own utensils, tasks he had all along assumed others would do for him. After meeting Gandhiji, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, dedicated himself to the freedom struggle.

Rajendra Prasad’s contribution to the country is quite an exhaustive topic as he started off working for the society at a very young age. It was during 1911, he joined the Indian National Congress and during one of the meetings of the INC, he met Mahatma Gandhi during 1916. Rajendra Prasad’s contribution to Indian Independence started the very minute onwards and there was no looking back after this meeting.  He was so smitten by the charisma, values, ethics and principles of Gandhiji that during 1920, he resigned his well-paid job as a professional lawyer to work for India’s Independence struggle. He started the Bihar Vidyapeeth with the help of his friends wherein the education system was purely Indian. He started this in order to oppose the Western education system that was fast growing in the country.

In 1911, Rajendra Prasad joined the Indian National Congress Party and was subsequently elected to the AICC. During the Champaran movement, Mahatma Gandhi asked Rajendra Prasad to visit Champaran along with the other volunteers and partisans of the Indian National Congress. Initially Rajendra Prasad was not impressed with Gandhiji's appearance and conversation but deeply moved by the dedication, conviction and courage of Gandhi.

In July 1946, when the Constituent Assembly was established to frame the Constitution of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected its President. And, eventually he was also elected as the first President of Republic of India. Unfortunately, on the night of 25 January 1950, a day before the Republic Day of India, his sister Bhagwati Devi passed away. He set about the cremation but only after his return from the parade ground.

His slogan 'Grow More Food' is still veryrelevant today of Gandhian concept of self and increase of agricultural industries-discipline, development of small rural industries. He imbibed the true spirit of Gandhian concept of self-discipline, development of small rural industries and increase of agricultural industries for maximum production. His stewardship of the ConstituentAssembly was exemplary. When India became Republic, ShriRajendra Prasad became President and continued in the high officefor two consecutive terms.

First president of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad had his name written as the pioneers of Indian republic and he was the one who drafted India’s first constitution. A part from all, among all 12 Presidents till today, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the only one who has been elected twice as the President of India. Being the key campaigner of Gandhi’s Independence Movement, his dedicated life for India’s progress has always sounded in his speech. The ever first Indian Republic day speech by Dr. Rajendra Prasad first addressed the crowd in Hindi and then in English. He said, “Today, for the first time in our long and chequered history, we find the whole of this vast land… brought together under the jurisdiction of one constitution and one union which takes over responsibility for the welfare of more than 320 million men and women who inhabit it.”

He addressed Republic Day as a ‘day of dedications than of rejoicing’ in one of his republic day speeches. And he proved it while take all his will power to take the Republic Day salute even when his dearly- loved sister Bhagwati Devi died on the night of January 25, 1960. In his special message to the Nation, he said “We must re-dedicate ourselves on this day to the peaceful but sure realisation of the dream that had inspired the Father of our Nation (Mahatma Gandhi) and the other captains and soldiers of our freedom struggle, the dream of establishing a classless, co-operative, free and happy society.”  He added, “We must remember that this is more a day of dedications than of rejoicing – dedication to the glorious task of making the peasants and workers, the toilers and the thinkers fully free, happy and cultured.”

Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the only Presidentof India, who will win the presidency twicein a row. In office of President Dr. Rajendra Prasadhad traveled to many countries with theaim of goodwill. He emphasized the needto maintain peace in the molecular era.

1) Service of humanity – Dr. Rajendra Prasad served as volunteer to distribute medicines, food & cloth to flood victims in 1914. He also provided relief efforts to earthquake victims in 1934. 2) All human beings are equal – After meeting Gandhiji, Dr. Rajendra Prasad stopped believing in caste system. 3) Simple life – Dr. Rajendra Prasad reduced number of servants. He did household works like sweeping the floor, washing utensils himself.
