Our StoryThe La Porte and Porter County offices of Comfort Keepers were started by Susan Lindgren, RN, BSN and Dave Lindgren, in July 2002. They founded their company as they saw both an immediate and future need in their area for the services Comfort Keepers offers.

The need for these services was exemplified with an episode several years ago with Susan's father. After suffering a mild stroke, the Lindgren's began to care for him by preparing his meals. Shortly after, it became evident that her father needed additional living assistance, but was not at the point of requiring full-time care at an assisted living or nursing home facility. They took him into their home, but soon discovered that this imposed a burden on the entire family, both emotionally and financially. After searching in vain for non-medical assistance, they decided to enter into this business in order to alleviate the stress most families and caregivers feel when caring for a loved one.

Who We AreSusan has over thirteen years of experience in the health care field and related industries. She received her A.S. from Purdue University in 1996, and she obtained her B.S.N. from Valparaiso University in 1998. At La Porte Hospital, she worked several years as a charge nurse on the sub-acute care unit, and worked closely with geriatric patients. Additionally, she worked as a nursing supervisor, and instructed nursing students for Ivy Tech State College in Valparaiso. She opened Comfort Keepers in July 2002, and in April 2003, she became a Certified Senior Advisor.

Dave has nearly twenty years of managerial work to his credit, and has operated several business divisions within both the retail and computer technology industries. He obtained an AS from Purdue University in 1995, received his BS degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bethel College in 1997, and received his MBA in 2000 from Bethel College.

In addition, we provide safety technology solutions to preserve independence and contribute to a better life. Thanks to our staff of caring and compassionate individuals that we call Comfort Keepers®, we've served hundreds of seniors throughout La Porte and Porter Counties and the surrounding area.

OrganizationsTheir passion for the betterment of the quality of life for seniors is evident in the many organizations to which they belong and the work they do within those entities. "It's about getting involved, and pushing hard for what is needed to make things better," says Susan. The list of organizations include:

In addition to the above, their company is a provider for the local Area Agency on Aging, and in 2006 was named Caregiving Agency of the Year by REAL Services (Area 2 Agency on Aging).

"In the end, it's about taking care of the ones that once took care of us," Dave states. "My favorite childhood memories often include a senior that made an impact on my life. The memories of them are cherished, and this is our way of giving back."
