Care & Maintenance Instructions

Teak

Teak is carefully chosen for use in Bramblecrest garden furniture due to its durability and resistance to extreme weatherconditions. Teak is a dense, close-grained hardwood that naturally contains high levels of oil. These qualities enable thewood to remain strong and long lasting making it ideal for outdoor use.

Weathering

When Bramblecrest Teak is delivered to your home or garden it will arrive untreated. The appearance of the wood will be of agolden brown colour and the surface will be highly finished. Bramblecrest recommends that the teak is left untreated so thatit will weather to an attractive shade of silvery-grey.

The surface will become increasingly rough to the touch and small cracks may appear in the end grain. These are the naturalcharacteristics of teak and will not affect the structure of your furniture. Treatment or no treatment- the longevity of thetimber will remain the same.

Treatment

Bramblecrest Teak Protector is a water-based product designed to maintain the golden brown colour for a longer period of time. Upon application the golden brown colour will not be altered and the weathering process will be delayed for approximately one season. We suggest using the Teak Protector within a few days of removing the packaging. An application is required as a continuous routine approximately once every 6 months.

Bramblecrest Teak Shield is also a water- based product that can be used to minimise the effects of staining caused bywine, olive oil, butter and other greasy substances. The Shield is a wood impregnator that can be used independently orafter the Protector has been applied.

Bramblecrest Teak Cleaner is an abrasive product intended for use after the teak has weathered to a silvery- grey colour. The Cleaner is intended to remove the weathered surface after the furniture has oxidised. After application the furnitureshould be allowed to dry and then brushed clean. Bramblecrest Teak Protector should then be applied if the golden browncolour is to be maintained.

Cleaning

To remove accumulated surface dirt (e.g. leaves) warm water or a hose and a hard scrubbing brush should be sufficient. However, if the dirt has penetrated the wood then it is advised to lightly sand the affected area, when dry, using finesandpaper. When using sandpaper always remember to sand with, rather than against, the grain.
