Buckingham Palace is a Royal residence. It was built in 1703 by Duke of Buckingham. It is now the official home of Queen Elizabeth and the British Royal Family.

It is a beautiful building which contains six hundred rooms and three miles of red carpets.

It is like a small town with a police station, two post offices, a hospital, a bar, two sport

clubs, a disco, a cinema and a swimming pool.

About 700 people work for the Palace. Two men look after the 300 clocks. On the top of the

palace there is a flag. If it is down, it means that the Queen is not at home. But if it's up, it means

that the Queen is in her residence.

Every day at 11 o'clock in the morning there is a famous ceremony near the Buckingham

Palace, This is the changing of the guard.

Many tourists want to see this ceremony, as thirty guardsmen march to the Palace and take

the place of the retiring guard.

residence, with 600 rooms. The State Rooms of the Palace are open to visitors during the Annual Summer Opening in August and September. They are furnished with some of the greatest treasures from the Royal

Collection.

official residence in Scotland. Successive kings and queens have made the Palace of

Holyroodhouse the premier royal residence in Scotland. Today, the Palace is the setting for State ceremonies and official entertaining.

Balmoral Castle

Balmoral CastleBalmoral Castle in Scotland is the private residence of

the Queen. Beloved by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Balmoral Castle has remained a favourite residence for the Queen and her family during the

summer holiday period in August and September. The Castle is located on the large Balmoral Estate, a working

estate which aims to protect the environment while contributing to the local economy.

The Estate grounds, gardens and the Castle Ballroom are open to visitors from the beginning of April to the end

of July each year, under the management of the Balmoral Estate Office.

Windsor Castle

Windsor CastleWindsor Castle is an official residence of the Queen and the

largest inhabited castle in the world. A Royal palace and fortress for over 900 years, the Castle remains a working palace today.

Visitors can walk around the State Apartments. The State apartments are opened to the public when the court is not in residence. They are furnished with treasures from the Royal

Collection including paintings by Holbein, Rubens, Vann Dyck and Rembrandt.

In November 1992 a fire damaged part of the Carstle,but no great treasures were lost. To mark the completion of

reconstruction work the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgrh held a ‘thank you’ reception in the restored

rooms.

The history of Buckingham Palace began in 1702 when the Duke of Buckingham had it built as his London home. The Duke´s son sold the house in1761 to GeorgeIII., it was renamed “Queen´s House“ in 1774 as Queen Charlotte resided there. Queen Victoria was the first monarch to take up residence in Buckingham palace in 1837.

It was Queen Victoria´s death tahat the Palace metamorphosed into today´s familiar landmark.

More than 600 rooms, including 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms.
