Office of Institutional Effectiveness
Alumni Relations Survey Report for Summer 2016
School of Education
September, 2016
University of Houston-Clear Lake Office of Institutional Effectiveness Alumni Relations Survey Summer 2016 Summary In fall 2015, the offices of Institutional Effectiveness, Alumni Relations, and Career Services formed a committee to revise the old Alumni Survey into a more useful tool to meet the data needs. The new Alumni Relations Survey was built to capture the alumni experience at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) three years after graduation and to determine the way their higher education helped establish their professional careers. The online Alumni Relations Survey was conducted in the summer semester of 2016 using Qualtrics survey software and iModules; it was launched in June 14 and ended on August 31, 2016. All alumni with current email addresses in iModules who graduated three years ago were invited to participate in the survey. The alumni data can be divided by school, by degree level, by gender, by ethnicity, by program or any of the above combinations. The average completion time for the survey was 10 minutes. The next five pages contain a short summary of data points by UHCL and by individual schools collected summer 2016 in the Alumni Relations Survey. Complete survey results are posted online at http://prtl.uhcl.edu/institutional-effectiveness/institutional-research/university-survey.

Location and program met my needs.
The programs meet my needs and the faculty is very supportive.
The advisors, one in particular, in the school of education made attending UHCL very difficult. I was told numeroustimes that I wouldn't get a job as a teacher because of my certification program that I was taking at UHCL. She wasvery discouraging and gave me the distinct feeling I wasn't wanted as a student. It wasn't until I scored well on testsand consistently got all A's (in every single UHCL course I took) that the school of education finally started helpingrather than hindering my pursuit of a teaching certification. Because of the amount of hassle and roadblocks Iencountered at UHCL, I recommend that individuals looking for an alternative teaching certification program lookelsewhere first. This is a shame because I took some fantastic classes with some great professors there that didreally help me in teaching.
I am currently enrolled in the educational leadership doctoral program.
Doctorate in Bilingual Education
I think I've exhausted education classes but would be interested in occasional seminars, lectures and currentresearch in the field.
Yes! Considering attending for my masters

Page 38, 09/28/2016 MLB-OIE: Alumni Relations Survey - SOE.pdf
My daughter will a sophomore at UHCL this fall.
My daughter begins her first semester (beginning Junior year) at UHCL in the School of Education! When she talkedwith counselor, they called her "legacy" since I received Bachelor, Master, EdD @ UHCL. Proud mom, proudmoment!
I recommend to friends and family often.
UHCL is convenient and provides faculty and staff committed to helping its students succeed and meet their goals.
Actually, both of my best friends attended with me and both have also gone back to obtain their maters degree aswell. I have made many great friends while being a part of all of my programs.

I brag on UHCL and feel I received one of the most rigorous and thorough doctoral programs that is out there whentalking with others in similar programs. Very proud to be a Hawk! Been a student there (off and on) for over 30years!
School of Education needs to either value their alternative certification (post-bac) students or stop offering that routeto teacher certification.
