    SPECIAL TO THE PROVINCE

    Whistler beckons with

the call of the wild. Just

    past the comforts of the

    Village lies the majestic

    splendour of silent for-

    ests, the tranquility of

    summer lakes, and the

    raging of river rapids de-

    scending from high al-

    pine glaciers. Glance up

    high and you might spot

    a solo figure spiriting

    between the trees. Sus-

    pended from a wire and

    hollering through the air,

    this mammal is known

    as the adrenalin junkie,

    a subspecies of human

who lives for the thrill of

    outdoor adventure.

    Either that, or it could

    be a Sasquatch sneaking a

    ride on Ziptreks new airy

    adventure, or a buzzing

    Superfly. Ziptrek Ecotours

    and The Adventure Group

    (TAG!) will have you shar-

    ing screams on fast and

    furious zip lines through

    the forest. Snap pics of

    blurry shapes in the trees

    and claim the Sasquatch

    sighting. Flap your wings,

as you soar with the birds

    on TAGs Superfly.

    For the more sedate,

    Ziptrek will guide fam-

    ilies through the forest

    canopy on their Tree Trek

    tour. Like Ewoks on En-

dor, take the time to ab-

    sorb the ecology and soak

    in spectacular views.

    Meanwhile, up in

    Whistlers fresh alpine

    air, intrepid adventur-

    ers grapple with ladders

    and rungs, seeking new

    heights in the vertical

    horizon. Via Ferrata of-

    fers a way to explore

    outdoor rock climbing in

    safety and style, though

    with enough exposure

    for even the experienced

    alpinist to crack a grin.

    Down in the valley, the

    rapids await. TAG keeps

    sun-baked bodies soaked,

    while navigating the

    whitewater with Wedge

    Rafting. Three tours are

    on tap: a relaxing and

    family-friendly cruise on

    the Cheakamus River,

    a moderate swelling of

    speed on Green River, or

    an advanced degree in

    adrenalin from the Ela-

    ho-Squamish torrents.

    If the rolling waters leave

    you in cold sweats, seek

    shelter in the forest green

    with the summer equiv-

    alent of a snowmobile,

    on the couple-sized, four-

    wheelin RZR tour from

    TAG. Access the deep sol-

    itude of Whistlers back-

    country, while churning up

dirt on the back roads and

    enjoying a four-star feast

    while watching the sunset.

    Of course, engines are

    noisy beasts compared to

    the beauty and grace of

    a horse. Canadian 01

    while offering wickedly

    dirty jeep, side-by-side

and ATV tours for the en-

    gine addictwill teach

    you to whisper hoarsely as

    trails unfold at a medita-

tive pace, free of noise and

    the mechanical world.

    There is a lifetime of

    adventure in Whistler,

    from skiing and boarding

    on Blackcomb Glacier, to

    diving headfirst into the

    void with Whistler Bun-

    gee, or screaming down

    the cement racecourse

    of the Whistler Bobsled

    Centre, on wheels. What-

    ever your outdoor ad-

    diction, Whistler has the

    adrenalin rush for you.
