HOLIDAY INDEPENDENT PRACTICE STUDENT’S NAME: DATE:

Dear Children,

We are sure that you will enjoy your summer vacation with members of the

family and friends. Some of you must be planning to travel or to visit your

relatives and grandparents. It will be great if you spend some time with them

and gift them something that is handmade and designed by you. This will

surely make them feel special. If possible, join some activity classes or learn

something new during your holidays. Spend some time reading storybooks,

newspapers, watching interesting and informative programmes. Help your

parents by cleaning up your room, arranging things kept in the cupboard and

donating things that you do not need to a NGO.

We are attaching a few interesting activities and assignments which you are expected to do during the break.

This will also help you avoid the noon time heat. Write neatly and present your work well. Please complete

the work and bring it to school on Thursday, June 6, 2019. Have lots of fun and take good care of yourself.

Six things to remember during summer vacation:

While your parents and we want you to have fun during summer break, we also want you to be thinkers

and doers. The following guidelines will help you to be both, while enjoying your freedom at the same

time.

1. Find other ways of entertaining yourself than phones and TV, learn a musical instrument like guitar or

keyboard, learn a hobby like origami or magic tricks, read novels, learn cooking, etc.

2. For every hour of electronics, you give one hour of play time

3. If you are bored, help out at home. This will also earn brownie points with your parents and help

you realize the importance of organization and cleanliness.

4. Reading is a must. Reading nurtures your soul. When you visit malls, make sure you drop in at a

bookstore and pick books that interest you. Otherwise, read on Kindle.

5. There is no sleeping all day and staying up all night: It is unhealthy and it will be hard for you to

readjust to regular school schedule at the end of the vacations.

6. Make sure you make time for your parents: Watch a movie, go out on dinners with your family and

spend more time with your family than with your friends.

Summary and Short notes

Student’s Name: Date:

Q1. Summarize the writer's experiences on her journey to the University in not more than 120 words.

I can still remember the day I left home for the university. I had packed and repacked a hundred times the night

before. Mother had bought me a new flask and a bottle of Tiger Balm. For headaches, she said. She really thought of

everything.

My boyfriend came to send me off at the train station. A neighbor had kindly volunteered to bring me to the station in

her car. I felt like an adult for the first time in my life. I was going to embark on a journey, both physical as well as

mental. I was afraid but I kept telling myself that this was the dream I'd had all my life and it was coming true. I could

see the sadness in my boyfriend's eyes but somehow, I did not feel affected. I was anxious to get over the goodbyes

that I had rehearsed for so many nights. When it finally came, I felt strangely relieved. It was a year later that I

discovered that the parting was also the beginning of the end of our relationship.

On the train, I quickly settled down. Halfway through the journey, I made friends with an elderly man who was also

on his way to Kuala Lumpur. He asked about my destination and he told me he was a teacher. Then the train was

delayed for three hours. It felt like eternity. I kept worrying about my brother who was waiting to pick me up. What if

he gave up and decided to go home? What was I to do? A thousand worries raced through my mind. My friend in the

train made me feel uncomfortable as I was unable to concentrate on his attempts to engage in an intelligent

conversation. I wanted to shout `hooray' when the train started off and continued its journey. The night seemed so cool

and exciting again.

When we reached Kuala Lumpur, my teacher friend helped me with my luggage. I was really grateful to him as I

would not have been able to manage it alone. The train was hurrying, on its journey again. I felt so small and alone in

the city. We parted and my heart leapt when I spotted my brother. I could have run over and hugged him, but we never

did that. In fact, I hardly know him. We managed to exchange a few words instead. I was so tired that I slept like a

baby on the way to his house. When I awoke, I found myself in the midst of a party. I had forgotten that it was my

brother's birthday. Poor thing, he must have cursed while waiting for me.

I could not sleep that night. I was too excited and apprehensive. I did not really know what to expect. When I finally

slept, it was already 5 a.m.

table.

Create a data entry form to include all fields from the Trees table.

Add the following record to the table using your form:

Check your data entry for errors.

->In your database, produce a report that:

shows the fields, when the tree was milled, the name of the location, Board_ID, the type

of tree, the Thickness, Width, Length, Ready, Sold and Price. In this order

contains a new field calculated at run-time called Volume. This is calculated using

Thickness multiplied by Width multiplied by Length. The contents of this field must be

displayed to 3 decimal places

shows only the records where Ready is No and Sold is Yes

has all data and labels fully visible

has a page orientation of landscape

fits on a single page wide

sorts the data into Year_milled, then Location and then Board_ID, all three fields in

ascending order
