Many frameworks exist

Readers should be able to compare the frameworks based on a determined set of criteria

Purpose of each framework not well known in the community

Comparison of 55 frameworks in six dimensions

Dimension 2: Architectural domain scope: strategy, business processes, information systems, Infrastructure

Dimension 3: Mutability: once formed, self-preserving

Dimension 4: Alignment: socio-cultural, functionally, structurally, infological, contextually

Dimension 5: Intentional dimension: government and agency frameworks, management frameworks, military frameworks, manufacturing-specific frameworks, technically oriented frameworks, interoperability frameworks, Add-on frameworks

Dimension 1: Covering size of organizations: local business unit, association of local business units, spatially distributed organization, global corporate networks

Dimension 6: Chronological Dimension: The arrangement of these frameworks following one after another in time when they are published or developed, a sequence according to time of occurrence

Most frameworks were developed out of the following domains: Government, Business and Military

EAF frameworks are usually forks of existing frameworks

TOGAF is the best established framework. Many frameworks provided the foundation for TOGAF

Few frameworks consider corporate strategy. TOGAF for example allows the use of the Business Motivation Model via the TOGAF Motivation Extension

Very few frameworks can be applied within a SME
