Hello Legion family,

If you missed the entertainment on Sunday, unfortunately you missed a great event! Ray Ariaz & Ray Perez and a few other talented musicians put on a great show. Don't miss the next one!

The Legion Family Picnic is on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Please come and either bring a side dish or dessert. The burgers & dogs are on us, plus it's the day of the 50/50 raffle with tickets being sold right up to the drawing.

I'm looking forward to a great year at the post with an emphasis on new membership and getting our members involved.

Remember the bar is open Monday thru Friday and as always it's the Best Buy in town. See you at the meetings & the gatherings.

If you have an idea about activities and/or changes you'd like to see implemented, please share your thoughts. Your opinion counts, and we want to hear from you.

Best regards, Tom

POST 134 MEETING, July 27, 2016 Minutes were approved as written. Finance Report, PC Joe Piento Report read. There is an extension on the Budget because of 1 & 2. We are taking out of the Baseball fund to pay for the umpires ($1800.00). The bill was slow getting into chairperson. Most of the Legionnaires were over at the Funeral Home for PC Mel Baity’s wake across the street. Commander, Tom Mann Post 134 Installation will be Sunday, July 31, 2016, at 4:00 pm in Main Hall. Our Legion Family Picnic will be on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Service Officer, PC Don Stotz PC Mel Baity, a 50 year member, went to Post Everlasting on July 23, 2016. Charlie Matz will be home soon, Joe Brown is out of hospital and back at our meetings, and John Mahoney is out of the hospital. Poppy Day, PC Ken Trumbull We need to get with the people who counted all the money for a list of all members that collected over $1,000.00. I’ll give a report next month. Corporation President, PC Ken Trumbull We had a great month at the bar in July. Adjutant, PC Ken Trumbull The American Legion Department of Illinois is sending out gold post cards asking you to call 1-888-716-7470 so they can confirm the accuracy of your member data. The business PCI is a trusted partner of the American Legion Dept. of Illinois. They may try to sell you other things that you do not have to buy unless you want them. Village Liaison, PC Joe Hedrick Joe had another meeting with the Village and they mentioned that after we are done with the hall we need to set it up like it was before we used it when we are done. Gun Range report is being finalized. We are looking into seeing if it can be used for air guns and archery for the Boy Scouts; in the meantime while we are waiting for the report. You can still use the Club 134 with the Community Room if you need extra room.

New Business There have been questions about a senior discount for the membership dues. No there is no discount. The Department of Illinois takes $31.00 out of the cost and the Post gets $4.00 dollars of the $35.00 fee. You can pay your dues now because in January they will be $40.00. Don Stotz spoke of getting a certified free copy of your DD214 which your family will need to receive the flag for veterans. You can do this at the County Clerk’s Office at the Skokie courthouse. John Slater mentioned that the flags in the parking lot are a part of the American Legion Memorial. We will discuss quorums and possibly a change in by-laws at the next Executive Board meeting in August. Pot of Gold, PC Don Stotz PC Joe Hedrick won the consolation prize of $13.00 which he asked to be given to “Gifts to the Yanks”.
