Water is flowing at Zamtan!A borehole was dug and a pump installed in the school yard thanks to a partnership between a District Rotary Club in the U.S. and the Mukuba, Ndola, Zambia Club. A clean convenient water supply is always joyously welcomed. In this case, however, it is even more coveted because it means daily porridge lunches can be prepared for over 150 school children and cement can be mixed to build classrooms. The impact of this single improvement has far reaching implications.

Good Life Gardening (GLG)Everyone wants to be involved in the Good Life Gardening program! There is no shortage of volunteers to be on committees, take lead-ership responsibilities, and get hands dirty planting seeds. Our

first attempts at growing Moringa trees (one of the highest nutrition-al plants in the world) resulted in all the sprouts being eaten by the chickens and goats. Perseverance is paying off, however, and we now have some prize specimens to prove it. One goal is to build small kitchen gardens in old tires that require little soil and maximize the retention of moisture. We’re hoping the idea will go ‘viral’ with the whole community growing small kitchen gardens of fresh vegetables in the near future.

We’re in Print -- Again!A second article about our orphan grief-support program was recently published in Clinical Nursing Studies, 2014, Vol 2, No.4. The title of the article is Perceptions of orphans’ grief support program in Zambia. The article is a descriptive study using structured interview questionnaires conducted among 74 participants composed of 32 orphans, 32 caregivers, and 10 teachers. The findings from the study warm your heart regarding the impact of the support program. This is an ongoing program which the Child Support Specialist Kafwas run twice a year (13 weeks each time) with new groups of children. Girls’ Achievement Program (GAP)An excited group of 5th, 6th, and 7th grade girls are en-rolled in the GAP program at Chipulukusu. The goal of the program is to mentor the girls through the 7th grade and high school by providing enrichment activities which keep them engaged and learning new skills. The first series of

activities focus on the book The Care and Keeping of You, which provides a discussion starter about the physical and emotional changes adolescents undergo. Additional activities will eventually include sports clubs, field trips, vocational skills, and other enrichment programs.

Sharing from SherriSo Much to Celebrate! If the world was made up of generous people like YOU our supporters, CNN Headline News would be very different! Because of your caring and sharing, lives are being lifted and whole communities set on paths toward peaceful self-sufficiency. So much to celebrate!

Our budgeted revenue for 2013-14 was exceeded by 46% allowing us to expand programs more rapidly than antici-pated and accelerate the construction of classrooms. This year when the rains come, the cardboard roof at Zamtan will not cave in on the children because the temporary shelter has been replaced with real classrooms. All three schools now have actively engaged PTAs and libraries. In Chipulu-kusu, an average of 328 books was checked out each month

during the school year. We’re also thrilled that two of our schools have been named Model Schools by USAID.

A few of our new initiatives are featured in this report. Our communities are learning to dream and then work to make those dreams a reality.
