So, What s

New?

Page 9: YNPNdc SM Summit: Keynote

YOU!

Page 10: YNPNdc SM Summit: Keynote

There is a group of folks, largely (but

not entirely) defined by generation,

who communicate differently. They

have always communicated

differently. They live their lives out

loud!

The world is changing the way it communicates.

The world is changing the way content is

created, filtered, consumed, shared, rated……

That s what this is REALLY all about!

That s what this is REALLY all about!

So, What Else is New?

Page 11: YNPNdc SM Summit: Keynote

Many generations in the workplace and

the effect on technology adoption

• It is now commonplace for

organizations to have four generations

of employees working together

• Technology is a critical source of

intergenerational tension – younger

generations more readily adopt and

embrace new technologies

• Millennials (digital natives) more likely

to embrace collaboration and

productivity tools, more transparent and

willing to engage in “social”

technologies

• Gap appears to be growing!

So, What Else is New?

Page 12: YNPNdc SM Summit: Keynote

But, Back to YOU!

Page 13: YNPNdc SM Summit: Keynote

You are more connected…

Page 14: YNPNdc SM Summit: Keynote

You are more connected…

…than I ever was at your age!

Page 15: YNPNdc SM Summit: Keynote

…how do make

work for your organization?

So the question is…

Page 16: YNPNdc SM Summit: Keynote

VS.

How does your organization

view social media, especially

Facebook?

What have you done/are you doing to

paint the right picture?

Page 17: YNPNdc SM Summit: Keynote

What should I be doing?

Page 18: YNPNdc SM Summit: Keynote

What is/are your goal(s)?

Keep it simple! One phrase will do!

• Gain or share knowledge

• Increase awareness of your organization

• Educate constituents

• Provide customer service

• Provide a workspace for volunteers

Set some personal goals for your involvement

Page 19: YNPNdc SM Summit: Keynote

Gossip! Yes! Gossip!

•Tell your organization what s going on

that affects them

•Tell your organization things that others

are doing that you might copy

•Make it a formal thing! A weekly Digest or

something

The future of the social web will be driven by these content curators,

who take it upon themselves to collect and share the best content online

for others to consume and take on the role of citizen editors, publishing

highly valuable compilations of content created by others.

In time, these curators will bring more utility and order to the social web.

In doing so, they will help to add a voice and point of view to

organizations and companies that can connect them with

customers - creating an entirely new dialogue based on valued content

rather than just brand created marketing messages.

Reverse Mentoring

You get it. The blue folks can mentor the red folks

about social media stuff and the red folks can

mentor the blue folks about organizational stuff.

Everybody wins!
