After sample valve (1) the sample flowsto dearation vessel (2) where it isdeaerated and any debris is screenedout. The sample is then pumped (3) tothe optical unit and measured (4).Finally the sample flows to thelaboratory sampling point (5).
The unit has an automatic weak acidcleaning cycle, with programmableinterval timing, that backflushes theunit to clean the optics (6).
All parameters can be set and theresults monitored with a local userinterface (7).

Sludge is taken from the process lineinto deairing container
From the container the sample isdiluted and pumped through cuvette ofimaging unit
Imaging unit consists of standardmachine vision camera and LEDlighting
The sample dilution, pumping, imagegrabbing and cuvette flushing iscontrolled by PC software and controlelectronics
Floc images are then analyzed andseveral morphological features, suchas floc diameter, area aspect ratio, arecalculated in floc analysis
