Design Proposal

Design Principles

• Clear branding of the library - commonality in colour schemes, shelving, furnishings, fonts, etc

• Strong external signage that matches branding themes

• Merchandising displays - front facing shelves, power walls at ends of shelf rows, stand alone displays

• Targeted zones for specific user groups

• Ability to change - neutral colours in fixed features, brighter colours in furnishings and vinyl signage

Design Elements

• Neutral colour carpet (charcoal or dark grey)

• White or off-white walls

• Neutral wood shelving

• Colourful furnishings together with neutral furnishings - mixture of 3-4 chair types• Feature walls with bright colours and/or vinyl graphics

• Incorporation of slat walls with acrylic display stands at the ends of each shelf row

• MS/HS Information Centre with newspapers, magazines, TV with streaming news channel (muted), world clocks

• Flexible use of space in Elementary - most shelves lower and moveable on casters

• Incorporation of a digital projector in the storytelling area

• Small circulation desk with large feature wall behind - no visual clutter

• Clear directional signage using common library branding

• Vinyl graphics along windows facing the playground - colourful scene in Elementary space against window seats,frosted logo on MS/HS side

• Book review whiteboards/chalkboards with integrated book display

Branding

• Student involvement - library logo competition

• Common look and feel, with distinctions made for Elementary vs. MS/HS
