Audience and Institution: Harry Potter And TheDeathly Hallows Part II

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II is aboutHarry, Ron and Hermione (the three major stars in thefilm) search for the few remaining Horcruxes so theycan destroy them and end Voldemort onc e and for all.

The Genre of the film is Adventure, Drama andFantasy. Also I would think that many people would goand see Harry Potter no matter what you are,Teenager or Adult because I think it has a very widemarketed age group due to how wel l the films areknown. The film is rated a 12A.

Furthermore, the budget of the film (the pri ce ofmaking it) cost $30 million. The director of this film isDavid Yates, and this film is typical of their work ashe has directed every Harry Potter fi lm made so far.

The three major stars in the film are Daniel Radcliffe(Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasl ey) and EmmaWatson (Hermione Granger) these are very well knownactors because of the whole Harry Potter Franchise, and they have starred in all of the eight Harry Potterfilms that have been made.

The producers of the film were Warner Bros. Studioswhich is now owned by Time Warner. Harry Potter had

many different types of technology involved in themaking of the film such as CGI, HDRI (High DynamicRange Imagery) Photography, Maya (a 3D animatingprogram) and more, but the filming o f Harry Pottertook place using an IMAX Digital 3D camera. WarnerBros. Studios again distributed the film as well asproducing it and to this day Time Warner still ownsWarner Bros. Studios.

The films release date i n the US was on 11 th July 2011and in the UK it was on 7 th July 2011.

    Analysing Magazines

    Task 4:

    Kerrang!

Consider the Title of the Magazine

The reason why Kerrang! Is calledwhat it is, is because it has anonomatopoeic and therefore refers tothe sound made when playing apower chord on an Electric Guitar. Itis a one word title; this is significantbecause it stands out to anaudience.

    The Publisher of the Magazine

Kerrang! Magazine is published by Bauer ConsumerMedia, they also publish Q music magazine. Themagazine costs 2.20 and is published every week ona Wednesday. The magazine also has a websitehttp://www.kerrang.com/ .

The target audience for the magazine

    8/11

The target audience for Kerrang! Magazine would bearound 14-20 year olds that are into various types ofmetal music. I know this be cause I am a reader of thismagazine and I am within that age region. I also know

this by the banner at the bottom of the magazin ewhich tells you which bands are within it. There is aman on the front of the magazine looki ng straight atthe reader, and this would draw people to look at themagazine.

    The cover of the magazine

On the cover of the magazine are fi ve band membersthese are all wearing black clothing which gives agrunge look which would appeal to many teenagersas they will idolise this. The front man looks asthough he is angry but this i s what he wants you tothink, therefore it is evident that he wants you to readon and read about him/his band. Other things appearon the cover such as a banner at the top of the pagetelling you that there are posters within the magazine. The price is also located on the front of the magazine

in the bottom right-hand corner along with a barcode.Furthermore, it gives you a list down the left-handside of the page on what information/bands are goingto be inside the magazine. Some particular itemsfeatured are in the magazine because it will providethe audience with information or news that they canread up on, an example for this issue of the magazinewould be the Reading/Leeds 2011 festival that has justpast. In this issue there are various bright colours

such as yellows, blues and reds this will be eyecatching towards an audience and therefore attracting

them to look/read the magazine. Other features of themagazine are the graphics on the title, it looks asthough the word Kerrang has been smashed intopieces of glass and this gives an alternate and edgy

image. The title is already unique to any othermagazine because it looks in the way that it does andalso it isnt just a word, it has a meaning behind whichwould be the onomatopoeia, because like I explained,it refers to the sounds of an Electric Guitar powerchord.

The style of presentation of the magazine

I noticed that the presentation of the magazine isfairly dark but also vibrant this gives an alternateimage and this is what the Kerrang! Magazine

producers want. The Kerrang! Magazine doesntexactly look cheap but neither that expensive I thinkthey have purposely done this so it matches to theirtarget audience. It compares with other similarmagazine like Q and NME because it involves some ofthe types of music within the magazines, but it alsoshares a similar style as the NME magazine becausethey both have banners and posters within them.

The mode of address of the magazine

  • 8/4/2019 Year 12 Media Studies Homework

    10/11

One way it addresses its rea der is how the front manis holding out his hand, as though to say come in. Youcan go on the website to address the magazine andwrite reviews. In this issue of Kerrang! The magazine

has articles about the Reading and Leeds 2011festivals. This issue covers interviews with variousdifferent bands and information about their newalbums which are coming out.

    Institution

Magazines use straplines to tell the reader what themagazine has to offer. There has been various coloursadded to the front of the magazine, including pink andblack this would create a punky sort of image. Thefont on the front cover is large and edgy which wouldsuit the audience and genre because that is theirstyle. The cover lines entice the reader by making youwant to read on. The reason wh y they use the slogan

LIFE IS LOUD is because it suits the reader and itgives a feeling of enjoying life as being loud is

associated with music. The master head displays agothic woman which most teenager s boys and girlswould look up to and idolise. The magazine alsoincludes free stickers, this would obviously appeal to

the audience because they are free and it is there sortof music. The bar code appears in the bottom right-hand corner so the person at the scanner ca n easilyscan the magazine.
