From the Editor’s Desk I feel nostalgic as we bring out our next edition of WSD. It has been

a pretty hectic month and we weren’t sure if the magazine would be

ready for the March 31st launch. However, we are glad that it is

finished and we have the edition ready for your consumption.

The story this time speaks about a young Indian woman named Reni

and how her life changed because of the concept called “Arranged Marriage”. For some

of our global readers, arranged marriage in India is something where the parents select

your life partner. It may sound obnoxious to people across the globe, but happens in

India.

We would like to hear about the kind of content you wish to have in our magazine. Do

write to me at [email protected] and tell us what you wish to see in this magazine.

Keep the love flowing people.

About the selected short story & its author The following short story titled, “Reni: An Indian woman & her fight” is written by Reni.

The true story of her life is presented in our magazine in the form of a serial and this

edition contains the first part of this series. It shows the heart-wrenching situation of an

Indian girl who faced the age old wrath of our Indian system called “Arranged Marriage”.

It also shows the struggle she has to go through in her day to day life fighting emotional

trauma. The first part gives a glimpse of the whole story and introduces the readers to the

emotions of Reni.

If you wish to write some good words to Reni, you can do so by sending an email to the

Editor-in-Chief at [email protected], however, Reni is writing this story for us to

make our readers be aware of another problem an Indian woman can face in an arranged

marriage and not for any assistance.

Reni: an Indian woman & her fight – Part I Hi, I am Reni. Today is International Women’s Day. Everywhere, from Television to

radio, news channels to Facebook, people are celebrating the day with the message

“Celebrate womanhood”. I saw a few messages like these

Happy International Women’s Day to all my women friends :)

Woman – one of the most beautiful creations of god…

You can feel her “INNOCENCE” in the form of a “DAUGHTER”… you can feel

her “CARE” in the form of a “SISTER”… you can feel her “WARMTH” in the

form of a “FRIEND”… you can feel her “PASSION” in the form of a

“BELOVED”… you can feel her “DEDICATION” in the form of a “WIFE”…

you can feel her “DIVINITY” in the form of a “MOTHER”… love you all.. keep

smiling because you know you deserve it...:)

I see these messages and sadness creeps into my heart. I keep looking at such messages

and a tear rolls down my eyelids. I feel like running away from all this stuff that keeps

reminding me of the price I am paying for being a woman in this world. What was my

fault?

Every time I see such a post in facebook that talks about woman’s day it tempts me to

shout on top of my voice. I feel like shouting and requesting people: please stop sharing

such sweet and cute messages about love, relationships, marriage, dreams, woman just

for the sake of it. If you don’t feel that way, don’t share. And if you really feel this way,

then do something so that it makes some sense to all. Today, I am forced to write and

share that happened with me, to make people aware so that it doesn’t happen with anyone

else.

I am a 27 years old woman of this era, modern, open minded, educated (or rather literate I

should say), smart, confident (used to be), independent (now a days I am a little confused

how we define it), a software engineer and all those good terms which generally defines

today's youth. You can pick up anyone from the young Indian crowd of today and I could

be that one. Recently I read a post on Facebook,

“I am quite surprised to come across so many "modern, progressive, independent

thinking" guys and girls, who would straightaway reject the idea of marrying outside

their caste, often in the pretext of "I don't want to upset my parents"”.

I am one of them, but facing the consequences of the same. Even I wanted to bring a

smile on my parent's face. I don't know what is wrong if I wanted to marry the guy my

parents chose, a guy from this society, a guy from their caste, a guys from a family they

knew for last 30 years. Our father's were colleagues, and knew each other professionally

for over 30 years. We were born and brought up in the same city, studied in the same

school, so much in common. I met him that evening in a temple. Our parent's chose a

temple as it is considered the most auspicious place to start with something new. We met,

we talked, and we shared lots of stories. Our likes, dislikes, ambitions, even imagined our

future together. I have been born and brought up with open mind and good thoughts,

never cared to ask this guy if he had a girlfriend. I have always believed that at our age,

when we have been away from our parents for a while, it is quite natural to have crushes.

Even having a boyfriend / girlfriend is not wrong. I was always fine with my guy having

a girlfriend in the past. The only thing is, after he gets committed to me, I should be the

only girlfriend he should be with. I had decided not to question my husband about his

past. I didn't ask him, and he didn't tell. We spoke about a lot of things that evening. I had

always believed that academic scorecard didn't matter if a person is ambitious. He was

quite ambitious and wanted to do things in his life. He seemed like a man of substance,

who if given a chance in his life would really do great things.

It sounds like a fairy tale, but yeah, it was like love at first sight. We liked each other, he

seemed to be the kind of person I had always wanted to be. Whatever era we live in,

however modern we get, a woman's life is full of dreams. She dreams because she lives,

and she is alive because she dreams, for herself, her parents, her family and her children.

I too saw a lot of dreams. I saw him everywhere in my dreams, as my life partner. With

those dreams and a lot of trust on this man, we went inside the temple and the next thing

was, we got engaged the very next day. It was a small ceremony, we two, our parents and

our priest at my house. We exchanged rings, and were very happy together.

But life had other plans in store. I don’t know where I went wrong? What was my fault?

What did I do which I shouldn't have done?

To be continued in our next edition…

This website has some of the best jokes we have found over the internet. The jokes are

mostly photographic in nature and a few textual ones. Some of them would also have

found their way in other sites also, but a lot of them were original and good. Though,

there are a lot of comic sites catering to jokes nowadays, we found this website to have

some good quality material that can be nicely consumed by the young population across

the globe. Enjoy it.
