Annual Wellness PhysicalsSummer is a Prime Time for Scheduling Your Child’s Annual Wellness VisitA yearly physical exam by your family's Physician is a critical part of your child's health care & the summer season is a convenient time for putting the exam on your family's schedule. It’s important to schedule an annual wellness visit with your PCP to enhance long term health and discuss any concerns that may arise.

DURING A WELLNESS VISIT, YOUR PCP WILL: • Measure height, weight, and blood pressure • Order any necessary tests to check overall health, and certain diseases, or determine if your child is at risk for certain health problems • Check immunization record and catch up on any necessary booster shots • Check vision and hearing if necessary • Discuss any emotional or social concerns

CALL YOUR FAMILY MEDICINE PROVIDER TODAY TO SCHEDULE YOUR CHILD’S ANNUAL WELLNESS PHYSICAL!

Some of the enhancement eClinicalWorks will provide our Patients include, but are not limited to: • Will reduce need to fill out the same forms at each office visit. • Provides more reliable point-of-care information and reminders notifying providers of important health interventions & preventative care measures. • Convenience of e-prescriptions electronically sent to pharmacy. • Patient portals with online interaction for providers and can reduce need to call offices. • Electronic referrals allowing easier access to follow-up care with specialists.

We appreciate and thank you for your patience and cooperation during the past 3 months as our offices have transitioned into eClinicalWorks to provide you the highest level of patient care.

On March 9, our Compass Medical Braintree and Quincy Primary Care Offices went LIVE with our new electronic medical record (EMR) system: eClinialWorks (eCW) which allowed Compass a 2-week period to adequately evaluate system performance before going live at our remaining practices on March 23, 2015.

The decision to switch to eCW over 5 other EMR’s was a well-vetted process. eCW was able to most align with Compass’s goals to improve internal workflows, provide accessible clinical content, enables

Early eCW Successesscalability for growth, provides optimal communication with specialists, our patients and inter- departmental and finally eCW is certified for Meaningful Use Stage 1 and Stage 2.

We are happy to report, at 4 months post LIVE, with eClinicalWorks we are seeing improved workflows within our offices, enhanced inter-departmental communication related to improved patient care, billing and very positive feedback from patients utilizing the online patient portal new feature: Compass Health Connections.

PREVENTING FOOD POISONING

COOK: Cook to the right temperatureWhile many people think they can tell when food is “done” simply by checking its color and texture, there’s no way to be sure it’s safe without following a few important but simple steps. • Use a food thermometer. Make sure food reaches its safe minimum cooking temperature. For example, internal temperatures should be 160°F for ground meats, and 165°F for all poultry. • During meal times, while food is being served and eaten, keep it hot (at 140 ˚F or above). After meals are over, refrigerate leftover food quickly.

CLEAN: Wash hands & surfaces oftenIllness-causing bacteria can survive in many places around your kitchen, including your hands, utensils, and cutting boards. • Wash hands the right way, for 20 seconds with soap & running water. • Wash surfaces and utensils after each use. Rinsing utensils, countertops, and cutting boards with just water won't do enough to stop bacteria from spreading. • Wash fruits & veggies —but not meat, poultry, or eggs. It's important to wash fruits & veggies before peeling because bacteria can spread from the outside to the inside as you cut or peel them.

SEPARATE: Don't cross-contaminateEven after you've cleaned your hands and surfaces thoroughly, raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs can still spread illness-causing bacteria to ready-to-eat foods— unless you keep them separate. • Use separate cutting boards, plates, and utensils for raw (uncooked) produce and for raw (uncooked) meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs. • Keep meat, poultry, seafood, & eggs separate from all other foods while you're shopping at the grocery store, and in the refrigerator.

Excerpted from the CDC

CHILL: Refrigerate promptly.Illness-causing bacteria can grow in many foods within two hours unless you refrigerate them. (During the summer heat, cut that time down to one hour.) • Refrigerate the foods that tend to spoil more quickly (like fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs, and meats) within two hours. Warm foods will chill faster if they are divided into several clean, shallow containers. • Thaw or marinate foods in the refrigerator, never on the counter or in the kitchen sink. • Know when to throw food out .

What can you do to protect yourself and your family from food poisoning this summer? Make food safety a priority! Follow these four simple steps: CLEAN. SEPARATE. COOK. CHILL.

Touch A Truck is an annual family-oriented event sponsored by the Old Colony YMCA where fire

trucks, police cars, construction vehicles and many other vehicles are on display for children to

look at, explore, climb on & more. This year’s event was held on Sunday May 17 at Southeast

Medical Center - located along Route 18 at One Compass Way - in East Bridgewater.

A great time was had by all who attended. All proceeds from the entry fee benefitted the 2015

Strong Kids Scholarship Campaign, a program that provides financial assistance for YMCA

memberships, childcare, before and after school care, Camp Satucket and recreational

programs. Compass Medical would like to offer a heartfelt thanks to all of the Employees,

Patients, Family and Friends that came out this year to make the event such a big success!

Nearly 2,000 units of blood are needed each day to help those in need right here in our own community. This is why Compass Medical is gearing up with the American Red Cross to help boost our community’s blood supply. Every blood donation is an opportunity to help a brother, friend, neighbor, co-worker or stranger in need. Compass Medical hosted two blood drives in June and July, collecting over 40 units of blood to help those in need. Thank you to all of our staff, patients and friends who came out to support the Red Cross this summer!

Collecting blood to help those in need has always been a challenge. Especially in today’s uncertain world, it is harder than ever to maintain a 5-10 day community blood supply, but the fact is that nearly 2,000 units of blood are needed each day to help those in need right here in our own community. This is why Compass Medical annually teams up with the American Red Cross to help boost our community’s blood supply. Every blood donation is an opportunity to help a brother, friend, neighbor, co-worker or stranger in need.

Anyone 17 years of age or older, weighing 110 pounds or more and in good health may be eligible to donate blood. According to the American Red Cross, 1 pint of blood can save up to three lives. To find an upcoming drive near you, go to redcrossblood.org

Summer Blood Drives at Compass MedicalThe Need is Constant. The Gratification is Instant.

DID YOU KNOW? Less than 38% of the population is eligible to donate blood. It only takes an hour to become a hero to someone in need.
