THE Los Angeles Business Journal held the 2013 WomenMaking a Difference Awards Reception and Luncheon eventat the Platinum Ballroom in the J.W. Marriott Hotel at LALive in Los Angeles on May 14th.
Described by attendees as an uplifting and inspirational event,the celebration honored Los Angeles based women who lead byexample, successfully blending effective business vision with a pas-sionate commitment to positively making a difference, both inthe world of business and in the communities they serve.
More than 250 prestigious nominees were submitted to thejudges by Los Angeles Business Journal readers this year. So thejudges had the unenviable task of narrowing the field down to sixhonorees for this years big event.
It wasnt easy to select just six honorees for this years awards, sowe have also taken the time to single out, for honorable mention,an incredible selection of finalists all superb examples of womenwho genuinely make a difference in their own right. Each is alsoprofiled in these pages.
Specifically categorized Awards of Recognition were presented to agroup of women who have truly blazed a path of leadership andinspiration for all Angelenos.

PAIGE Adams-Geller founded her LA-based premium denim company,Paige, after learning first hand about the intricacies of design andproduction as a model for number of top brands. Adams-Gellarlaunched Paige in 2005 via high-end retailers with every detail care-fully calculated, from a contoured waistband to forward sitting side seams and each style designed with the customer in mind. The designs became aninstant obsession of consumers, celebrities, and prominent fashion editors.Paige continued to grow, and by 2007, the company had introduced mens,maternity and petite lines that built off specific customer needs and thebrands perfected fits.
Harnessing her industry expertise, Adams-Geller has grown Paige into acategory leader in a field dominated by male designers, colloquially knownas the denim mafia. She is the first woman to make a name for herself inthe premium denim category and is the face of the brand as well as the com-panys Creative Director, leading product design decisions. The business grewmore than 40% last year and continues to outpace the market, demonstrat-ing its leadership position in the premium denim category.
Adams-Geller is not only a leading LA entrepreneur and business owner,she is also passionate about philanthropy. She is a womens advocate, sup-porting several charities including RAINN, which supports victims of sexualabuse through education, resources and services for those who need recoveryand prosecution. She is on the national leadership council and created theRAINN Collection of Paige denim in March 2012, donating proceeds to sup-port sexual abuse survivors. Given the propensity for eating disorders in thefashion industry, Adams-Geller is also an advocate for individuals facing thischallenge. She champions overcoming body image issues in multiple ways,including by supporting the National Eating Disorders of America (NEDA).Her passion for breaking down walls and for championing womens issuesshows that her leadership and courage have no bounds.
