The development of jazz began with the “Call and Response” singing of the slaves on the plan-tation. Explore the rhythms of Africa and how the singing of spirituals has influenced the mu-sic of today. The all-familiar Ragtime music was popular at the turn of the 20th century that lead to the “Roaring Twenties” and the growth of the ensemble bands in New York and Chicago. Ex-perience this popular form of music through a multimedia presentation illustrating the people and places of the era, accompanied by record-ings and live piano music. Limit: 40

The U.S. Constitution The Constitution, the supreme law of the land, is a road map for our country and we can drive forward as long as Americans understand the map. Explore in detail the creation, evolution, and current interpretations by examining all those concepts we missed, or have forgotten; like checks and balances, concurrent powers, enumerated powers, federalism, implied pow-ers, separation of powers, reserved powers and a whole bunch of stuff that sounds sooooooo boring but is sooooooo vital to a democracy. Bring your questions and Steve will provide a copy of the Constitution for this intellectually stimulating evening examining a document that has inspired humanity for over 200 years and yet is not universally understood in our own coun-try. Limit: 40

The Roaring 20’s It has been called the age of jazz, the era of won-derful nonsense and the roaring 20s. It was a de-cade that pitted traditional conservatives against reformist liberals; science against religion; and rural vs. urban. The twenties started the celebri-ty-obsessed and consumerism-based society that we live in today. We will look at Prohibition, the Rise of the KKK, the Scopes Trial, Lindbergh’s flight, Hollywood, the Harlem Renaissance, and the Lost Generation which led to the writing of the Great Gatsby. This will be an evening with many connections to today’s political and so-cial climate. Come and examine one of Amer-ica’s most fun and least understood decades. Limit: 40
