***MEDIA ALERT*** Sung Kang’s “Project Underdog” Wins Ford Motor Company Corporate Design Award at 2016 SEMA Show WHAT: Ford Motor Company recognized the most significant design achievements at the 2016 SEMA Show with its Corporate Design Awards, which annually honor the Ford vehicles that make a significant contribution to vehicle design. The 1972 Ford Maverick re-imagined by actor and car enthusiast Sung Kang entitled “Project Underdog” received Special Recognition for Outstanding Achievement in Design from Ford Motor Company. WHY: Through “Project Underdog,” actor and car enthusiast Sung Kang partnered with Shell, featuring Pennzoil, SEMA and a team of aspiring young automotive technicians from Alhambra, CA to work together on the transformation of a 1972 Ford Maverick that will make its debut at this year’s SEMA Show. The Maverick, according to Sung is a commonly overlooked and undervalued car (hence, “Project Underdog”). Over the last few months, Sung Kang and his three student protégés have re-imagined this classic at the SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar, CA to be showroom-ready.
