Why ZENOS?

Because special requirements take special solutions!

Runs with SAP® Business Suite

Why ZENOS?With its Business Suite, SAP® provides a complete package for companies of every size, that is the only one of its kind in the world. Its comprehensive, flexible business applications and highly developed functions meet almost every need.

If customers need more, SAP NetWeaver® is a powerful technology platform that lets them close the gaps using tools like SAP NetWeaver Process Integration, Visual Composer, Composite Application Framework, ABAP Workbench, Web Dynpro, Adobe Interactive Forms and other SAP technology components.

But special requirements take special solutions. For this reason actum has supplemented the SAP NetWeaver® technology platform with its own product, ZENOS®.

What are these requirements?ZENOS is designed especially for heterogeneous composite systems, and ensures that the many abilities of the SAP Business Suite can be used to the full, without nullifying past investments.

The requirements involved in enabling the fast, secure, transparent and efficient operation of such multi-system solutions are always the same:

» As little interference as possible in existing applications » No changes to SAP processing logic » Despite this, comprehensive data transfer between existing applications and SAP » Consistency of the redundant data that this can give rise to » Extremely high quality demands on SAP import and export data processing

Our clients (such as BARMER GEK, Deutsche Lufthansa, BASF IT Services and many more) have extremely demanding requirements for the transparent and secure operation of their composite systems, and need to react quickly, securely and efficiently to unforeseen situations in their SAP backend. They are aware that accreted legacy applications can generate data types that even the best IT concept cannot predict. This makes it all the more important that the SAP backend provides transparent processing, proactive monitoring, and comprehensive fault handling in order to react to such situations.

It is exactly this challenge that actum meets with ZENOS.

Why is a product-based solution advisable? All of the above client requirements can naturally be met with SAP® technology components. But for actum it was very important to provide a product-supported solution that actively supports the entire lifecycle of the integration (concept, implementation, operation, maintenance). The efficient operation of such integrated solutions is possible only when the development and implementation phases incorporate elements that support subsequent operation and maintenance.

How can operation be made efficient?IT departments want » Uniformly structured solutions, so that » The least possible application-specific knowledge needs to be retained, and » All tasks can be performed by anyone in the operations team.

Integrated solutions should » Have proactive monitoring for fast reaction in case of faults » Trigger automated reactions in order to prevent follow-on faults » Supply meaningful fault messages and documentation so faults can be diagnosed » Enable the respective specialist department to be included in clearing up faults » Remove faulty sets without interfering with other processing » Provide debugging, test and simulation support for fault analysis

What added value does ZENOS provide?Accreted legacy applications typically do not work the way SAP® process logic would like them to, but instead have their own ways of doing things. If the complexity of the existing application permits only a step-by-step replacement, a gradual transition and at least temporary coexistence of the legacy application and SAP solution are necessary. These must be designed with extreme care, in order to keep data consistent between the two.

This means that the SAP® backend must provide the following quickly, securely, transparently and efficiently:

» Diverse processing techniques (Flat File, BAPI, ALE, IDoc, tRFC, etc.) » New functions and services » Automated process chains » Transparent process configuration » Detailed monitoring » Comprehensive fault handling

ZENOS is a consistent, comprehensive approach that covers all requirements and performs the desired quality-improvement functions from a stable product platform.

ZENOS provides tools, procedures and templates for » Process chain management within the SAP backend » Proactive monitoring » Message administration » Fault handling » Restarting procedure » Documentation » Logical traces » Simulation » and more

The solution is modelled with ZENOS on the SAP® surface, and if necessary can be extended with ABAP language elements. From these settings, ZENOS generations a completely run-capable program code that operates in the SAP® backend in a control and monitoring environment supplied with ZENOS.

This meets all requirements for » A unified solution » Which requires a minimum of application-specific knowledge, and therefore » Lets tasks be distributed within the IT team.

In addition, solutions developed with ZENOS always » Provide proactive monitoring, for fast reaction times in the event of faults » Automatically trigger reactions to prevent follow-on faults » Generate meaningful fault messages and documentation so faults can be diagnosed » Enable the respective specialist department to be included in clearing up faults » Remove faulty sets without interfering with other processing » Provide comprehensive debugging, test and simulation support for fault analysis

Thus, ZENOS gives SAP users an SAP® plug-in that uses SAP technology and ergonomics for a very short learning curve. It requires only the willingness to use a product-based solution.

This is something we routinely expect of any skilled craftsman. If a carpenter faces the daily task of cutting a 5x5m board into 25 1x1m pieces, he is obviously not going to do it with a jigsaw, but with a circular or table saw that lets him make the cuts quickly, accurately and safely. A jigsaw is designed for short curved cuts, and is simply not the right tool for long straight cuts.

Likewise, while it may be possible to achieve the desired functions without ZENOS, ZENOS as a purpose-designed tool performs them faster, more securely, more efficiently, and ultimately more effectively.

Who can benefit from ZENOS?ZENOS® is for companies using SAP from R/3® Release 4.0, and was certified by SAP on 29 October 2008. ZENOS supports all interim releases through to the latest release of SAP Business Suite. ZENOS is Unicode-capable.

ZENOS is certified “for integration with SAP NetWeaver 7.0 via SAP integration scenarioABAP add-on for SAP NetWeaver.”

Certified functions: » Integration with SAP NetWeaver®

» SAP Solution Manager Ready Functionality

ZENOS is an SAP plug-in. It requires no special hardware and is supplied under the partner name “/ACZENOS/.” As an ABAP add-on it requires very little training, and experienced SAP developers can use it after only a brief orientation.

The list of ZENOS users is long, and covers a host of industries. It includes:BARMER GEK (health insurance), BASF IT Services, Blohm+Voss Shipyards, Claas Landmaschinen (agricultural machines), CeramTec (ceramics technology), Desitin (pharmaceuticals), Deutsche Bundesbank (German Federal Bank), Deutsche Flugsicherung (aviation insurance), Deutsche Lufthansa, Krones (mechanical engineering), Lufthansa Technik, MAN B&W Diesel, manroland (printing technology), Mapal Dr. Kress (tooling), Nordseewerke Emden (shipyard), NordwestGetränke (beverages), rkuit (IT), Siemens Building Technologies, STILL (KION-Group) (forklifts), and many more.

Our customers have extremely demanding requirements for the transparent and secure operation of their combined systems, and want their SAP backend to be able to react quickly, safely and efficiently to unforeseen events. Product-based development is important to them for development and implementation, but above all for efficient operation and maintenance.

Who uses ZENOS?

Who makes ZENOS? ZENOS® is a product of actum consulting.

actum was founded in 1999, and is located in Hamburg, Germany. From the start we have had a close relationship with SAP, and became an “SAP R/2-R/3 Migration Partner” in our first year of operation. Our thorough understanding of SAP data structures and long experience in migration projects have had a great influence on the actum portfolio.

actum’s central focus is process-oriented integration and migration, and the harmonisation and reorganisation of complex SAP systems. Along with procedural models and techniques, with ZENOS® we offer customers an SAP extension that brings critical added value in enterprise-wide integration scenarios.
