INSIDE Happy New Year!
It seems fitting here at White Rock Horse Rescue that,
according to the Chinese calendar, this is “The Year of the
Horse”. In acknowledgement of this, White Rock is starting out
strong in “The Year of the Horse” with special horsey events in
both January and February. Come join us in kicking off the new
year!
February 15, 2014 from 10-2
White Rock Horse Rescue has been invited to participate in
Tractor Supply’s Grand Opening, located at the old Walmart.
WRR will have a booth, ponies, a rescue horse, and food.
Please come stop by our booth and visit our rescue horses.
New and improved
Fencing
WRR was awarded
$4000 from ASPCA in
July 2013 to use
toward a wood fence
to replace the white
plastic that had a
lifetime guarantee.
Home Depot worked
with WRR and the
wood was delivered in October 2013. In November the holes were dug and the
fence posts were put in the holes. We are now waiting on the next step. With
good weather and volunteers, the fence should be up by June 2014 which will
make the 1 year project deadline.

CEO Update White Rock Horse Rescue and Retirement, Inc. is
now in their 6th year of operation. Without the
community, volunteers, supporters, and everyone that
touched my heart with encouragement, the Ranch would
not be what it is today. Since 2008, an amount of 378
horses has come through WRR path. I would like to say a
BIG thank you to everyone who has supported White
Rock, whether it was volunteering, sponsoring, donating to our cause, adopting a rescue horse,
or just supporting us on our journey to rehabilitate and give horses a loving home.
With everything changing, and all the demands of the Ranch, it is not easy sharing all the exciting
things about WRR to the community when it is just me spreading the news by word of mouth.
WRR's new and improved News Brief will help us share all the happenings and information from
the Ranch in an easy and accessible way. It will be a collaboration effort by myself and some
talented volunteers. We have decided to call it the White Rock Horse Rescue News Brief.
I would like to encourage the community to come and tour WRR. We have some appealing new
additions to the Ranch that make for a fun outing. There are: our rehabilitated and riding horses;
the 1/4 mile track for riding, running, or just having fun with a horse; the WRR Nature Park walk
and/or ride, which is a magical 2.5 acres of paths in a desert environment; The Equus Arena; the
ASPCA Care Center; and the Retirement Villa.
A sincere Thank You to everyone.
Isabel
A huge Thank You to Arthur Corona from Palos
Verdes! He donated a 1987 F 350 Truck complete with
a tow package to the Ranch. His generosity is deeply
appreciated.
*WRR is a non profit 501(3)c so we are run solely by donation and volunteers. Every dollar and
every supply goes toward the benefit of the Ranch. If you would like to donate to White Rock
Horse Rescue please go to our website at http://www.whiterockhorserescueca.org/

On July 27th, 2013 WRR received a call
from a caring person in the Big Bear
area who had saved 1 out of the 55
horses who had been severely
neglected and starved in Chatsworth,
Ca. Dr. Lenhart gave the horse a
thumbs up to go to a rescue, so he
came to us with a great attitude, but
very much in need of food.
Immediately, Michelle sponsored this
big guy and named him HERO. She gave
him some special care which included:
food, skin care, and lots of attention. I
know how important it is to have
attention and be loved; here is the
proof.

2nd Chance Quarter Horse Paint, Gelding
“September 2013” October 21st, 2013, the phone rang with a desperate Jackie on the line, so upset to
find a wonderful paint gelding up for adoption at the Devore Animal Control. After
discussion, a plan of Jackie adopting this starved gelding and then donating him to WRR
for his rehab was hatched. With the plan in motion, Jackie collected donations from
people all over the U.S. and the funds were put aside to use for him. Jackie fittingly
named him 2nd Chance. The plan was a success, and we picked up 2nd Chance on
October 27th, 2013. Since then, 2nd Chance has made friends, eaten well, and touched
the hearts of many people. He is 13 years old and WRR thinks he has been trained in
Western Pleasure. WRR is proud to present this sweet boy as one of our
success stories!

WRR was recently asked to provide 3
horses to be featured in a music video for
Kacey Musgraves song “Follow Your
Arrow”. We escorted Angel, Phoebe, and
Reddy to the location of the filming.
Phoebe failed immediately due to her
personality, while Angel failed due to the
fact that she couldn't walk down the road
straight with Kacey. That left our big
spotlight to Reddy our mini! Please click

During Fall Break WRR hosted a Kids Camp. Fifteen kids started
their adventure on Monday, November 25th and ended on
Wednesday, November 27th. On Monday we received a
demonstration on roping from Jack Peddie. Everyone was able to
channel their inner cowboy or cowgirl by learning how to rope like
a pro! Tuesday was our outdoor adventure away from the Ranch.
We departed on a hike to the lone Oak Tree that resides off a
beaten path in the middle of the desert. The Oak Tree is
surrounded by beautiful rock structures that the kids were able to
climb over, under, and even in. After admiring the sights at the Oak
Tree’s location, we proceeded to Flamingo Heights to explore the
old mine off of one of our local horse trails. Wednesday we took
the day to soak in everything White Rock has to offer at its location. All three days everyone
cooked, cleaned, and worked on the Ranch as a team. Of course, Monday, Tuesday, and
Wednesday we learned about and rode horses. Feet cleaning, brushing, feeding, and riding
were done on a daily basis. Good Going Team! See you again next year!

White Rock Horse Rescue was very excited to welcome these Registered Paint Horses!
They were donated to us from Lazy JN Ranch. These beautiful babies are big, friendly,
eager to learn, and ready to be loved by somebody special. Out of the 5 that arrived in
early January, we have 3 left. If you are interested in adopting one of these special
horses, please stop by the Ranch to meet them and speak with Isabel.
