Ari went with her mother to her sister’s appointment with Dr. David Sandweiss, volunteer pediatrician, at the Maliheh Free Clinic. After examining her sister, Dr. Sandweiss asked her mother if she would like him to exam Ari, age two, also since she was there. Her appreciative mother said yes. In performing the examination, Dr. Sandweiss discovered Ari had an abdominal mass. The mass was confirmed via ultrasound, at the clinic, thanks to volunteer Ultrasound Tech, Liz Boulay, who was in the clinic that day. Arrangements were then made for an immediate evaluation of Ari at Primary Children’s Hospital. The doctors there found a Wilms Tumor on her left kidney. A week later she underwent a five hour surgery to remove the tumor, 12 lymph nodes and the kidney itself. Ari is a brave little girl. She experienced many pokes, ultrasounds, x-rays, oncological visits, sores in her mouth, fevers, weight loss, and 18 weeks of chemotherapy among other things. The Maliheh Free Clinic offers a range of medical services, however, our primary focus is on health maintenance, patient education, and preventative care. We are the primary care providers for over 5,000 individuals in our community, providing regular visits, labs, screenings, childhood immunizations, and patient education.

The Maliheh Free Clinic is run by a core team of full-time and part-time professional staff, and many volunteer doctors, nurses, pharmacists, administrators, interpreters and other members of the community. We also draw on the medical expertise and resources of long time partners, including Intermountain Healthcare, the University of Utah, and major pharmaceutical corporations.

PREVENTIVE CARE SERVICES AVAILABLEIn 2015, the Maliheh Free Clinic expanded services to include additional preventive care for our patients. We now offer adult and child immunizations, and FIT test screenings for colon cancer. Additionally, twice a month, we hold a Women’s Health Clinic for women in need of cancer screening services. At Women’s Health Clinic we provide clinical breast exams, education, screening mammograms and pap smears to screen for cervical cancer and HPV, in a single visit. These tests are all provided at the clinic at no cost to the patient, thanks to the generosity of our community partners including:

Susan G. Komen Foundation – Utah, Mountain Medical, Utah Pathology Services, and Intermountain Healthcare, and Chapman Richards Cares. We even bring Mountain Medical’s “Mammobile” (a mobile mammogram unit) right into the clinic’s parking lot. Our Women’s Health Clinic

has been successful in finding breast cancer in four women, in its earliest stages. These women have been referred to lifesaving treatment, through Intermountain Healthcare. Over 300 women are receiving services through this program each year.

have provided thousands of hours of service in support of their neighbors in need in our

community. Space won’t allow us to name all 300+ of you, but please see

The Maliheh Free Clinic was named in honor of Maliheh Abdollahi “Modar joon”, grandmother of Mr. Khosrow B. Semnani, the benefactor of the Maliheh Free Clinic. Maliheh selflessly gave of herself to others so that their burdens might be lighter, their visions longer, and their dreams could be fulfilled. The Maliheh Free Clinic stands as a tribute to her. Through its service to the community, the memory of her kind and charitable spirit lives on.
