Courses Special Notes

6090 is not a class but is the credit you get for your Master’s Project under the direction of your committee chair. You should take it the semester you plan to complete your project.

6091 cannot be registered for unless you have had a proposal meeting with your entire committee and you have an approved project as evidenced by a signed proposal title page.

6990 can be taken if the project is not completed during the 6090 semester.

Courses Electives and Endorsements

Master’s students must take 15 hours of elective credit that is approved by their committee. These courses must be 6000 level and have a grade earned.

Courses may be taken for endorsements Gifted and Talented ESL Reading Mathematics

Special Education courses and licensure Content courses are also available in English,

HPHP, History, Math, Science Only 9 hours can be transferred from another

university

CommitteeBefore you have completed 18 hours and no later than

the completion of two semesters of coursework after you are admitted, you need to formalize your graduate committee

Committee Chair Teacher Education faculty Someone who is interested in your topic Someone with whom you get along

Committee Members Expertise in some aspect of your topic Could be a supervisor Must have a Master’s degree

Proposal / Project The Proposal describes the Project and

should be developed by the candidate in cooperation and consultation with the graduate committee.

When the chair feels the Proposal is ready, it is given to the remainder of the committee and a date is set for the Proposal meeting

Proposal / Project At the Proposal meeting, the candidate

presents their idea. The committee, including the candidate, discusses the proposed Project, making changes and clarifications.

The candidate makes all the changes needed and gives the Proposal to the chair for a final review.

The candidate prepares the IRB forms

Proposal / Project The candidate does what they said they would do in

the Proposal. The candidate writes up the results and discussion in

consultation with the committee chair. When the Project report is ready (says the chair), a

Project defense meeting is scheduled for the committee.

The candidate presents the Project and defends their research. The committee discusses the project and any changes that need to be made.

The candidate makes the changes and submits the Project to the chair for the final review.

The Project is accepted and the candidate does a happy dance and has a party!
