so much so that the gaol was nicknamed "Johnny Short's Hotel". A description of this

gaol can be found in the "History of Monaghan County 200 Years" by Denis Carolan Rushe.

Newtown Hamilton Presbyterian Meeting House has several Short marriages in the mid 1800s

The Parish of Loughgilly, County Armagh and the Parish of Armagh have several Short marriage records.

Despite discovering the above protestant Short families we have been unable to trace

many into 20th century Ireland. Our conclusion is that members of these families

emigrated early in the 19th century to Australia, Canada, England, Scotland and the USA. This theory becomes more tangible on a review of the query pages and mailing lists of people researching Irish ancestors on the Internet.

We would be delighted to hear from anyone who has further information or knowledge of any relevant Short family genealogies. For those interested in the Short(t) family be sure to check the web site cited above. There is extensive information there, births, marriages, deaths and death certificates. As well, we have other information not listed on the web site which could be made available to interested researchers.

When we were kids from the web by Anne Curry B0631

According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids long,

long, ago probably shouldn't have survived, because.

We shared one drink with four friends, and no one actually died from this.

We would leave home in the morning and play all day; as long as we were back before it got dark no one minded.

We did not have Playstations or X-Boxes, no video games at all, no videotape

movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no personal computers, no TV!

We had friends - we went outside and found them.

Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. The idea of a parent

bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law. If we misbehaved at school we were disciplined

- when we got home and our

parents heard we were disciplined again! and told to apologise to the teacher -

Imagine that!
