Once the Weimar Government took charge of Germany, one of the first things it had to do was sign the peace treaty, the Treaty of Versailles.

2You have now been given a copy of some of the terms that Germany had to agree to. You have fifteen minutes to sort them into three catagories:

Territorial terms

Military Terms

Financial TermsAll colonies to be given to the Allied PowersNo tanks, armoured cars and heavy military permitted.

Coal to be mined in the Saar by France

No military aircraft permitted

Germany to build merchant ships to replace Allied ships sunk by U-boats.

Saarland area of Germany to be run by the League of NationsCattle and sheep to be given to Belgium and France as reparations.

Resource rich region of Alsace-Lorrain returned to France.

No union (Anschluss) with Austria

Danzig turned into a Free City. (no longer controlled by Germany)

No submarines allowed.

Germany to pay reparations fixed at 6600 million to Allied Powers.

Posen and West Prussia given to Poland.

Rhineland (area on boarder with France) demilitarised.

Army not to exceed 100,000

No naval vessel to be greater than 10,000 tons.
