What is KEFIR anyway? Kefir originates from the Caucasus Mountains in Eastern Europe. It's believed that the name comes from the Turkish word "keif" which means good feeling. Kefir's flavor is naturally tangy and slightly bubbly. Its tart and refreshing flavor is often compared to yogurt. The difference between the two is that Kefir is drinkable and contains many more probiotics. While an excellent yogurt, such as those that we make, might have as many as 6 live active cultures, there are 40-60 live active cultures in our kefir. Kefir is believed to have many health benefits, from regulating digestion, metabolism and the immune system to lowering cholesterol and balancing blood sugar levels. Kefir has been reported to aid in the treatment of a variety of health conditions including ulcers, eczema, depression, hypertension and many more. We like to drink it plain, sweetened, or added to smoothies.
