Traders have sold their goods at Barnsley Markets since 1249 and over 300 stalls populate the town’s indoor and outdoor market spaces today.

The markets’ long history, fresh produce, and broad selection of other goods, attract thousands of visitors every year.

A PROUD HISTORY

Naming the town centre development, The Glass Works, is a celebration of the contribution glass manufacturing made to the town’s economy.

Glass-making, like coal-mining, is a major part of Barnsley’s industrial past. It began in the town in the 17th century.
