If you are in segment 1 of Spanish 1 (or taking the whole course), you will begin to work in Modules 1-4.

If you have signed up for only segment 2 of Spanish 1, please work only

in Modules 5 - 8.

Please remember that you should not skip around and instead should work in order of how the assignments are presented.

You log into your course here: http://learn.flvs.net/signin.html with the same username and password you use for your Florida Virtual School Account.

Go to the course information tab inside your course on the left menu screen. Click on pace and then select which pace you would like to follow. Please remember that you must work weekly. The minimum requirement is 5 assignments per week. Consistency is the road to success! Not only will you complete the course on time, but the learning process will take place. The course information tab will also provide directions on how to navigate the course.

Weekly work is mandatory…if you go for 2 or more weeks without working the withdrawal process may begin.

The first 28 days of the course are known as your grace period. This is like a test drive. If for whatever reason you decide that this class is not right for you, you can drop the course during the grace period without it affecting your academic record.

After the grace period expires, if you drop the course it will be an F on your record. During the grace period, if you are not working consistently in the course (at least 5 assignments per week) you will possibly be removed from the course. I will do this to protect your academic record. If you want to stay in this course past your grace period expiration date, make sure you are submitting at least 5 assignments per week.

If you can't submit work please reach out to me and let me know why.

100 % of what you need for your assessments IS inside the lessons.

GOOD NEWS! 100 % of what you need for your assessments IS inside the lessons.

Just take the ENTIRE lesson without skipping, and you will be able to complete the assessments independently.

All work submitted must be your own. Do not use a translator or other source

to complete your work.

Remember that you are here to learn. There is no need to overuse a dictionary or other translation source. You don't have to hunt down Antonio Banderas or George Lopez to do your work for you! I am here to help if you get stuck or need help.

Once I grade your work, you can always re-submit assignments through your gradebook for more points. Just make sure to read my feedback (inside your gradebook) so you can re-submit with any needed corrections.

Some assignments will require you to record yourself speaking Spanish. No need to worry, I am the only one who will be listening :)

You will need a microphone on your computer to complete the required voice activities.

If you do not have a microphone, you can use your cell phone, videos and a

program called audiopal. All directions are in my welcome letter AND in my announcement page.

Whenever you do a voice activity, you will want to include the writing of what you say in

the student comment box before you submit it to me. For example, if you record yourself saying: Me llamo Mike, you will write that (me llamo Mike) in the student comment box. That way if there is a problem with the recording or the pronunciation, I will know what you were trying to say.

At the end of each chapter we will complete what is known as a DBA. We will practice some of the Spanish you learned in the chapter and converse about what you learned. EACH MODULE HAS A DBA REVIEW. TAKE IT PRIOR TO DOING THE DBA, please.

You can make an appointment to complete your DBA with me or you can

simply call me when you are ready to complete it. LEAVE MESSAGE IF I CANNOT ANSWER, AND CONTINUE TO WORK

Procrastinating on DBAs is a waste of time for everyone.

The DBA is required. You may not take a zero on the DBA.

One way in which FLVS ensures your success in our courses is through the required monthly contact. We will need to communicate with your parent/guardian at least once a month to update them on your successes in your Spanish course.

Acceptable modes of communication are: phone calls, guardian’s emails, and guardian’s phone text (PLEASE UPDATE RECORDS PERIODICALLY IN YOUR FLVS ACCOUNT)

GUARDIANS: you have an FLVS account where you can view the student’s progress at any time

• FLVS requires weekly AND quality work. Going on vacation? not an excuse, let your instructor know and work ahead.

• Only under unexpected and/or extenuating circumstances FLVS will consider an extension.

Virtual School sets high expectations for the success of its students. To maintain instructional momentum, students are required to submit assignments in their course on a weekly basis and to maintain regular contact with their instructors. Failure to submit the minimum number of assignments on a weekly basis will result in removal from the course and may result in a failing grade being assigned to the student’s academic transcript. We are committed to meeting the needs of all students and will work tirelessly to facilitate student success. The Instructional Leadership Team
