What makes a typical day? Block Scheduling 4 classes per day 90
minutes long One semester (August to January or January to June) is
equal to one full term / one full credit Advisory (homeroom) once
per week Early bird bell schedule First bell at 7:20 Last bell at
2:30

How important is it to earn credits? It is ESSENTIAL to
success! Credits determine what grade you are in Credits determine
whether or not you may progress to the next level of classes
Credits determine if you may take dual enrollment classes at LSCC
Credits determine whether or not you will graduate

How important is my GPA? Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is the
second half of graduation You must have at least a 2.0 cumulative
GPA to graduate Every class you take counts including HS credits
taken in middle school Every D (1 point) or F (0 points) reduces
your GPA and hurts your chance for a successful graduation Honors
and AP classes count more than regular!

graders must take The appropriate level of math (Algebra or higher)
Earth Science or Earth Science Honors English 1 or English I Honors
HOPE (Health and PE combined) Fine, Performing, or Practical Arts
class or CTE Other electives which MAY include Intensive

Review Your Graduation Requirements By graduation, incoming 9
th graders must have 24 total credits 4 English credits 4 Math
credits including Algebra and Geometry 3 Science credits including
Biology 3 Social Studies credits including American and World
History as well as Government and Economics 1 PE credit (HOPE)

More Graduation Requirements Pass 10 th grade FCAT 2.0 Reading
Pass End of Course exams for Algebra, Geometry, and Biology Have a
Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or better At least ONE online
course

Recommended, but not Required 2 credits in Foreign Language o
Mandarin Chinese 1 and 2 o Spanish 1 and 2 o French 1 and 2
(tentative) Advanced Placement (AP) or Honors classes Completion of
a Career / Technical Education Program (3 or 4 credits) Academic
Electives such as Marine Science, Journalism, Political Science or
Psychology

What is my focus now? Read the enrollment brochure carefully.
Consider the type of classes that will take your education in the
right direction for you Complete the registration form: Talk to
your parents/guardians, teachers and guidance counselor about the
courses that are best for you Enroll in the 9 th grade classes that
are required for ALL 9 th graders (math, earth space, English and
HOPE) Select other courses that meet your needs and interests

Have your parent / guardian sign it Return the form to your current
guidance counselor OR Bring the form to Parent Night at LMHS

Will I Get the Courses I Request? The master schedule in a high
school is based on the requests of the students. Choose carefully!
The Guidance Department makes every effort to place students in the
classes they choose, but selections cannot be promised or
guaranteed. All classes must meet minimum and maximum class sizes
no classes too small or too big.
