Learning Strategies

Entering the Classroom

1.) Line up outside the door in two lines (boys & girls) after the first bell.

2.) Ensure that shirts are tucked in before entering classroom.

3.) Go directly to your seat.

4.) Secure the materials you need to start working.

5.) Turn in any necessary homework into the bin.

6.) Fill out agendas and begin working on any posted Bell Work or activity.

Independent Work

1.) Work done by yourself.

2.) If you need assistance, remain in your seat, be quiet and raise your hand.

3.) Talk only to the teacher when you need assistance.

4.) When finished, raise your hand for additional instructions.

Class Discussion

1.) If you want to speak, raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged.

2.) Stay on topic with conversations.

3.) Take turns speaking during conversations with others.

4.) Give undivided attention to the speaker.

5.) Never ridicule or make fun of other peoples thoughts, questions, or opinions.

Teacher Directed Activities or Class Instruction

1.) Eyes on the teacher.

2.) No side conversations.

3.) No wondering out of seat without permission.

4.) Take notes when expected to do so.

5.) Raise your hand if you have a question. Wait to be called on before talking.

Group Work

1.) When told, move into groups quickly and quietly. Stay in group.

2.) Keep hands and feet to yourself.

3.) Discuss only the topic given.

4.) Talk so only the people in your group can hear you.

5.) Be a proactive member who participates. No one likes dead weight.

6.) Questions? Ask a group member first.

Quizzes and Tests

1) Keep your eyes on your own work.

2) Remain quiet.

3) Raise your hand and wait for assistance if you have a question.

4.) Any suspicion of cheating will result in removal of test and an immediate zero.

5.) When complete, follow teachers instructions and maintain a quiet working environment for others.

Grading Scale

90%-100% = A

80%-89% = B

70%-79% = C

60%-69% = D

Below 60% =F

Class Assessments: 40%

Classwork: 35%

Homework: 15%

District Assessments: 10%

Grades are earned, not given

End of Class Instructions

1) Remain in seat.

2) Clean up your area, including the floor.

3.) Wait to be dismissed. The bell doesn’t release you, the teacher does.

Restroom Procedures

You are limited to using the restroom 3 times per class per quarter. Once those are all used up, you must wait till you are at lunch or when you get home. (Emergencies/Medical issues are another story.)

All students must sign out and back in with the binder by the back door when leaving the classroom. Students must also retrieve the Responsibility Binder and open to their name for teacher to sign.

Students must carry a restroom pass or risk being sent back by another staff member.

Only one boy and one girl may leave the classroom at the same time for restroom purposes.

DisciplineYou are middle school students. Conduct yourselves as

young adults.

Do NOT disrupt the learning of others!

Any misconduct or inappropriate behavior will result in the following: Pink Slip (3 result in an In School Suspension ISS) Parent Contact Removal from class Loss of semester and end of the year field trips.

We are preparing you for high school.

If you are disrupting the learning of others, you will be removed.

Buddy Room Teacher

If you are sent out of the class for misbehavior….

1. You will leave the room respectfully.

2. Go to the buddy teacher’s classroom with a pass and all your belongings.

3. Upon entering the others teacher’s class, quietly sit down in your assigned spot.

4. Reflect on your behavior and fill out the Behavior Modification thinking map. Turn into Buddy Teacher.

5. Once completed, work on assigned work independently until released back to class.

6. Being sent out of class for misbehavior results in a pink slip detention. Further misbehavior will result in a referral.

Behavior Modification/Referral Sheets

What the law says: School boards have the job of supporting and assisting

teachers in the enforcement of rules. (A.R.Ss15-843.D.1.-4.)

A teacher may remove a student from the classroom who is disruptive. (A.R.S.15-841.A.2.)

A school may reassign a pupil to an alternative program if the pupil refuses to comply with rules. (A.R.S.15-841.E.;A.R.S.15-841.F.)

A student can forfeit his/her right to a free public education. Expulsion is for continued disruptive behavior, or for violent or dangerous behavior. (A.R.S.15-841.B.)

A school may refuse to admit any pupil who has been expelled from another public school. (A.R.S.15-841.C.)

AgendasFirst thing you do after you’ve made it to your desk and

have secured your items to start the class, is FILL OUT YOUR AGENDA with objective, homework, and other daily information.

Agendas will need to be at school everyday and are worth weekly points.

Parents will need to sign agendas every weekend for Monday agenda checks.

Each week you do not get the agenda signed you will lose 10 points.

Failure to return signed agendas will result in Pink Slips.

iPads

iPads are an educational tool. ANY misuse of this will result in confiscation of your iPad for an indefinite amount of time.

When not in use: keep iPad face down on your desk and in energy saving mode (airplane mode).

When not in use for the day: iPad must be kept in your backpack and hung from the back of the chair.

Cell Phones

NEED TO REMAIN OFF AND IN YOUR BACKPACK.

IF THEY ARE FOUND ON YOU THEY WILL BE TAKEN UP TO THE OFFICE.

THERE IS NO REASON FOR YOUR PHONE TO BE IN YOUR POCKETS OR ON YOU.

ANY PHONE THAT IS HEARD OR SEEN BY ANY TEACHER WILL BE IMMEDIATLEY CONFICSCATED UNTIL THE END OF THE DAY!

Sweat Shirts

They need to be on or in your back pack.

When you come into the classroom your sweaters MUST come off. Unless other wise instructed BY THE TEACHER.

For obvious health and hygienic reasons, sweaters will not be worn outside when the temperatures reach 90º or above.

Stay Connected

Remind app is a quick and easy way for teachers to text students and parents about important information throughout the year.

Every student should ask each of their teachers for their specific activation code for both themselves and their parents.

Students and parents will also be assigned a login code for Synergy to access their grade book which will provide continuous update on student grade progress and assignment submissions.
