Chiropractic Drs: Code of Ethics• Much like MDs, Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) are trained through

an accredited, 4 year institute including 2 years of clinical practice.

• International Chiropractors Association: code of professional conduct developed in 1985.

• Also similar to MDs, DCs swear to abide by a code of ethics, such as: • Availability• Confidentiality• Release of records• Limits of Chiropractic care• Patient’s Bill of Rights • Freedom of Choice• Guarantees

Chiropractic Research

• Behavioral Changes and Chiropractic Care: October 4, 2006 – 8 year old boy with behavior issues and complaints of headaches, neck pain, incoordination, stomach pains, inability to sit still, and learning difficulties.

• Case Study for Chronic Chest Pain: February 2003 – 49 year old man with severe chest pain, high blood pressure and rapid heart rate using traditional medicine without relief. Sought chiropractic care and was able to breathe without pain after first treatment. After 14 weeks of treatment, man was symptom free.

• Chiropractic Care for Adult ADHD: September, 2007 – a study of 9 adults (ages 22-58) took the TOVA exam. All showed attention and focus issues. After 2 months of treatment, all 9 patients showed significant change in their scores and 88% had normalized their scores.

Yoga • More than 5,000 years old

• Means “to join or yoke together”

• Over a hundred different schools of Yoga

• Ashtanga Yoga (classical Yoga) was written about by Patanjali somewhere between the 1st and 5th centuries.

• Consists of three mechanisms:• Exercise

• Breathing

• Meditation(General Yoga, n.d.)

Types of Yoga

• Bikram – 26 poses, good for beginners, practiced in 105 degree heat with 40% humidity

• Hatha – focuses on slow and gentle movements• Vinyasa – ‘flow’, most popular style, classes may vary,

poses flow from one into another• Kundalini – focuses on Root Chakra (lower spine), lots of

core work• Ashtanga – ‘power yoga’, physically demanding, good

for strength and endurance• Iyengar – uses tools: blocks, harnesses, straps and

cushions, focuses on alignment• Anusara – focuses on the opening the heart, poses

include lots of backbends

Benefits of Yoga

• Reduces back pain, arthritis and joint pain, and improves

functionality of the skeletal and muscular systems

• Improves quality of life

• Reduces levels of stress

• Lowers heart rate and blood pressure rate

• Helps relieve depression, insomnia and anxiety

• Improves overall physical fitness (strength and

• Find 1 article about chiropractic and 1 about yoga (safety, research, benefits of, etc…) and write a summary of each.
