West Ham United V Chelsea: 2-1

Slaven Bilic adds another valuable scalp to his fast growing collection, as Mourinho puts his neck nearer to the chopping block.

More blues for the Blues

The shrewd tactics by West Ham boss Bilic heap more misery on Mourinho and his team. West Ham set up to frustrate Chelsea, and hit them on the counter.

However the opening goal came from a corner, as Chelsea failed to properly clear and Zarate punished them on the 17th minute, with a driven effort past Asmir Begovic.

Fine margins

Technology proved its worth once again, as a header from Kurt Zouma was almost bundled in by Hammers full Back Carl Jenkinson. Real-time the ball appeared in, however at closer inspection the ball was kept out by millimetres, still 1-0.

Fabregas was also denied a goal after he was judged to be marginally offside, Gary Cahill took the post match interview as a stand in for the absent Mourinho and had this to say:

"You're left scratching your head sometimes. In the first half the Fabregas goal could have been given and we had the ball that was nearly over the line. That sums up the way we're going”

Seeing red

Two mandatory bookings in 9 minutes saw Nemanja Matic sent for a premature shower, this sparked uproar within the Chelsea camp. Diego Costa and Fabregas, both entered Referee John Moss’ book for dissent. Mourinho’s assistant Silvino Louro was also sent from the touchline. During the ruckus Jose remained unusually calm, only producing a wry smile. However he wouldn’t be able to resist joining in the protests…

Despite being noticeably unanimated during the first half Mourinho couldn’t help himself during the half time interval, a behind doors altercation saw Mourinho join his Louro in the stand for the second half.

Change of style

After the break, ten man Chelsea shortly found themselves level after another corner led to another goal, this time for the blues as Gary Cahill struck a composed finish. However West Ham would have the last laugh as they went more direct to substitute Andy Carroll who struck the fatal hammer blow with his head, with just 10 minutes left to play.

A piece of classic centre forward play, gave Carroll his first goal since returning from injury and Slaven Bilic claimed "It's impossible to mark him in the box," Carroll’s performances for the rest of the season will certainly interest Roy Hodgson as Carroll tries to force his way into contention for Euro 2016 next summer, as he can poses a different kind of threat to Hodgson’s striking alternatives.

Hammer Time

The former Marseille man Dimitri Payet is showing his prowess as he put in another man of the match display. He was West Ham’s architect and played a major part in the build up for Carroll’s winner.

West Ham have now beaten Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool and will hope that they can spread this form across the whole of the season unlike their last campaign as they hope they can bring European football to the Olympic Stadium.

Chelsea will be hurting after more head scratching, they are simply not firing on all fronts, which has given Mourinho his 6th defeat of the season in all competitions. Can things get any worse?
