Job Description Internal Isolation Unit Assistant

POSITION: Internal Isolation Unit Assistant

RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant Headteacher

GRADE: Band F SCP 17-21

Broad Description:

To administrate and supervise the internal Isolation of students in the isolation room and co-ordinate work from relevant faculty areas. Provide some administrative support to whole school attendance monitoring as directed.

Please note that the postholder will be the sole supervisor of the isolation room. Therefore, the ability to work alone is essential. There will of course be other staff in the vicinity.

Typical Tasks and Duties:

Supervise students within the isolation room. Provide challenge and motivation to ensure a calm working environment.

Liaise with faculty teachers when appropriate, creating and collating resources and gaining key information about units of work in order to prepare for supporting students during internal Isolation.

To ensure that the isolation room procedures are adhered to and the room is well maintained, neat and tidy.

To log behaviour incidents on SIMs/Excel and prepare behaviour reports as necessary.

Assist with after school detention procedures as appropriate. Contribute to the development of strategies to develop and progress the isolation

unit and internal Isolation supervision. To work effectively as a Teaching Assistants responding to the needs of

students on the basis of the school’s policies and agreed practices. Liaise with the Achievement Leaders, Student Welfare Leaders and the Senior

Leadership Team (SLT) regarding students to be placed in internal Isolation. Support the supervision of students on internal Isolation at break and lunch time.

Responsibility for staff: The post has limited (or no) direct responsibility for supervising other staff though may be expected to demonstrate tasks or advise/guide new employees, work experience or trainees.

Responsibility for budget: The post has some direct responsibility for and is accountable for handling cash, processing cheques, invoices or equivalent or is accountable for small budget.

Responsibility for physical resources:The post has some direct responsibility for physical resources, involving the careful, accurate, confidential and secure handling and processing of information.

QUALIFICATIONS/ TRAINING AND LIKELY ABILITIES

Educated to at least GCSE level, or equivalent, in literacy and numeracy. To be able to write routine letters, take minutes, work with data bases and maintain

records. Able to communicate and exchange information, verbally and in writing, with a range

of audiences. Good knowledge of the school, its organisation, activities and policies. Can undertake straightforward calculations and maintain records Able to read and write messages and instructions. Competent in use of software and office equipment Can operate a computer and have sound word processing skills. Able to undertake routine work or work within established procedures but without

close supervision. Can solve straightforward problems. Able to make some decisions involving the use of judgement.

Can maintain confidentiality at all times – recognises privileged position with access to pupil, parent and staff information. Understands the need for professional relationships within the school.

Good organisational skills Be able to stay calm and (on occasion) deal with difficult or aggressive visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS/ TRAINING AND LIKELY ABILITIES

Experience of working with young people. A firm, calm approach when working with young people. The ability to be flexible while responding to the ever changing needs of students. A commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities. High standards of general education including good written and verbal

communication. Word Processing Skills Computer Literacy A mature and sensitive manner and excellent inter-personal skills are required. The ability to work confidentially, efficiently and on own initiative, are essential. Flexibility and adaptability
