LAGOOZ HOLDS CAREER MENTORSHIP DAY Lagooz School held a Career Mentorship Programme tagged “Nurturing the Eagles” on 19th October, 2017. Among the dignitaries present in the programme were: Mrs Ranti Okewole, Coordinating Director, Office of Education Quality Assurance District 1, Agege; Hon. O. Majiyagbe, Education Secretary, Agege Local Government Education District; Sola Kosoko, Nigerian Lead Role Actress; and Dr Olusote Olumuyiwa Peter, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon/Chairman, NMA Lagos. Also present were officers from Office of Education Quality Assurance, press men, Lagooz P.T.A executives and students from some invited schools. The programme started with a red carpet and tea session at about 9:30am. The school principal, Chief Mrs Otubela, in her opening speech, welcomed all the guests present and thanked them for making out time to participate in the programme and share from their wealth of experience with the students. There was a wonderful ballet dance presentation by the primary pupils of Laggoz Schools. Mrs Ranti Okewole, the coordinating director Office of Education Quality Assurance District 1, Agege, spoke on Career Development and Factors Affecting Career Success. She explained what career meant and narrated some experiences from her 38 years of teaching. “A career is an occupation undertaken for a period of a person’s life with opportunities for progress.”She said that a career spans throughout one’s life and that determination is needed to achieve one’s career in life. She also said that all was not rosy with her when she became a teacher at the age of 18. She admonished students not to be proud but to be studious and shun every misdemeanor that can affect their dreams or ambition in life. Dr Odusote Olumuyiwa Peter, consultant orthopedic surgeon, and Chairman, NMA Lagos, spoke on overcoming barriers to career success. He said that one of the barriers students may encounter is finance to pursue their education. He also talked about internal and external barriers that affect students. He highlighted strategies for overcoming barriers to career success. Dr Olumuyiwa’s speech was followed by a cultural dance presentation by students of Lagooz College. A Nigerian lead role actress, Sola Kosoko spoke about leadership. She thanked the management of Lagooz schools for inviting her to such a programme. She said that leadership does not come automatically. Though youths are leaders of tomorrow, some youths end up becoming servants because they do not know the key requirements for success. She encouraged the students to be focused on their studies and have good character because there are many students who attended great schools but ended up miserably in life.

Hon. O. Majiyagbe, Education Secretary, Agege Local Government Education District, thanked Lagooz Schools for putting up a wonderful programme. He also taught the students some clapping patterns and a simple exercise.

Chief Yomi Otubela, proprietor of Lagooz Schools, talked about Target Setting and Planning. Using 2 stories, he advised the students to discover who they are and maximize their potentials. ‘Target setting is not about guessing what you can achieve. It involves knowing where you are now, what you are trying to achieve and determining challenging but realistic amounts of improvements needed to get there.” He said students need strong determination and good planning to overcome challenges in life.

Chief Otubela’s speech was followed by a quiz competition between Lagooz School and one of the invited schools, The Bells School. Awards of mentorship were presented to the special guests of honour (Mrs Ranti Okewole, Dr.Odusote Olumuyiwa, Sola Kosoko, Honourable Majiyagbe) and Chief Mrs Otubela.
