Web Design for Beginners
What will I learn?
How to create basic web pages using a program called Kompozer
How to use the scripting language called XHTML
How to link CSS pages to your web pages and to include CSS styles within the web pages
How to use a program called GIMP to change pictures so as to make them suitable for use in a web
page. How will I learn?
Watching a combination of example demonstrations and verbal explanations given by the tutor.
Then working from hand outs and appropriate exercises to reinforce the examples shown.
What equipment will I need to bring to the course each week?
A pen / pencil and paper to take notes
Reading glasses (if you need them)
Memory Stick (pen Drive) to copy the programs onto so that you may carry on working at home.
What skills and abilities will I need to join the course?
Basic computer skills, using the keyboard and mouse, opening Windows programs using a memory stick
and being able to create folders and save files into them, such as may have been gained from taking our Computers for Absolute beginners course.
You need to be able to read, write and have basic mathematic skills
Develop a basic idea that may be translated into a 4 page (minimum) web site.
How will you check my progress?
Regular reviews and quizzes
Practical observations and activities
What will be my next stage to increase my skills? Progression onto any of our follow up computer course. Information will be given to you during the course. If I need extra help what do I do?
Tell either your tutor or the Community Engagement Officer. We have specialist equipment and staff to
give you the support you need to succeed on your course.
If you have problems with a physical disability or with manual dexterity let us know, as we may be able to
make some alterations to the equipment to suit.
