We are only as good as what we dream.  We dare. We do. We learn to make it better.

We may not always succeed but always show we can.

The thinker with a mission, leader with a heart. This is the CJC student. Because here in CJC, you will find an eclectic family of scholars, sportsmen, artists and trailblazers ready to set the world on fire.

We are a college that opens new doors for you regardless of your background. The CJC student is at once bold, creative, inquisitive and not afraid to explore beyond limits. We believe in the all-rounder who wants to excel in and beyond academic performance.

Excellence in learning and living is our vision. Our rigorous academic and co-curricular programmes offer myriad opportunities that develop

the mind, heart and spirit. Our caring family of educators hope to excite bright minds and ignite a deeper understanding of the world. We foster the life skills, people skills, critical thinking and confidence that mark all 40 proud generations of CJCians. With our ELL and Ignite programmes, forward is certainly our favourite direction.

Our bright minds are matched by our full hearts. Student life in CJC is every bit as electric as our distinct PE T-shirts and our passionate student-leaders. Expect a brimming calendar of activities designed by students for students, from charity bazaars to sports carnivals, rock concerts to movies under the stars. Even in our cool classrooms, CJC culture burns brighter and hotter than everywhere else.

In truth and love, CJCians strive to be the best and brightest they can be. We lead and serve. We see possibility. We move skyward.

EXPLORERS

I N T E L L E C T

HELLO WORLDGetting on top of the world is easy in CJC. With boundless opportunities for discovery and research, our students are free to pursue their passion in the arts and sciences. Curiosity, imagination and a love for learning mean a lot to us. That is why a CJC education doesn’t just prepare you for life. It prepares you for adventure.

LIGHTS, KNOWLEDGE, ACTIONOur spirit of active thinking and doing can be seen in our ever-expanding map of enrichment activities and research programmes.

At the Model United Nations Conference and our very own Youth Ambassadors Symposium, play the role of diplomat, or champion a cause in an advocacy group. Or make Economics come alive in our annual Stock Market Game. Why stop there? Mix Shakespeare with Arthur Miller in an original production for Literary Evening.

Learning in CJC is at once an art and an adventure. Of understanding and discovery. We go as far as our minds can see.

TEACH TO REACHIn an intensive two-year ‘A’ Level journey, you will explore both the humanities and the sciences through a myriad of learning styles and inquiry modes. Our curriculum, grounded in both theory and practice, has been designed by our skilful teachers to meet the challenges of a changing university landscape and the 21st century workplace.

More than anything, we value critical and creative thinking. You will be exposed to an array of different perspectives and timeless concepts in General Paper. Synthesise ideas in an independent research paper for Knowledge and Inquiry (KI) .

Shine new light on the human body in Biology or appreciate the intricacies of communication in English Language and Linguistics (ELL) . The possibilities for imagination are limitless.

We believe in collaboration and experimentation. Our seminar-style classrooms encourage discussion and questioning, whether during a History lesson on the Cold War or investigating compound structures in Chemistry. Interactive, hands-on sessions allow our students to create peer-teaching videos on statistics, share investigative articles on Facebook, and better understand the laws of motion in live Physics demonstrations. Who ever said learning has to be boring?

LIGHT THE FUTURE

SEEK AND FINDIf you could only ask one question in your lifetime, what would it be? The CJC Ignite programme is for the boldly curious, the analytical thinker, the budding scholar. If you are ready to raise the bar and create change in your community, you belong in Ignite.

Our integrated curriculum prepares you to be the creative, critical and confident leader of the future. Ignite is the springboard to ask difficult questions, uncover core theories and analyse complex problems. We give you the space to explore your interests and the opportunities to apply your gifts.

THINKING CLASSROOMSWe invest in deep thinking. Group discussions, collaborative tasks and inquiry-led experiments are the centre of the Ignite classroom. Our seminar-style approach spurs greater teacher-student interaction and student-centred discourse. Our aim? To set alight a thriving intellectual life.

Moving beyond the ‘A’ Level syllabus, we examine concepts such as human rights and community across various disciplines. We want you to make connections across knowledge areas, understand ideas in context and invent creative solutions to everyday issues.

Page 11: We Want Sky

You are empowered to create your vision and find your style of leadership.

START THE FIRETo enter the Ignite programme, students must demonstrate intellectual capability and a passion for learning in a written test and an interview process.

However uncertain or fast-changing the world, we will ready you for the future. We want you to ignite, inspire and illuminate.

with professionals at a formal dinner. Seminars by NUS lecturers promise a fuller understanding of theory and issues on the ground.

SERVICE IN ACTIONA rich education is more than the subjects you take. In Ignite, you have the opportunity to examine and alleviate problems faced by local communities. Connect directly with community leaders and non-governmental organisations. Kickstart an advocacy programme. Lead a community service project.

LEARNING FULLY ENRICHEDWe tap on the college’s excellence in language and linguistics to make you a skilful communicator. Our critical thinking workshops and enrichment modules help you give shape to big ideas.

UNIVERSITY NOWIgnite students have the chance to experience UTown NUS on a four-day residential programme combining academic and social inquiry. They conduct field research, engage in fireside chats and network

C H A R A C T E R

WE STAY GOLDA good education lasts forever. In an increasingly competitive and fast-changing economy, we believe that values and character are every bit as important as academic excellence. The CJC philosophy is to help our students become confident young men and women with a sense of purpose. CJCians are dedicated not just to their own success, but also to the success of those around them.

FORCE FOR GOODOur student development programme seeks to form spirited individuals ready to serve the community. Through reflection and sharing, we hope to help you see the impact you have on your friends, family and the wider community. We want you to recognise the needs of others, from the elderly to the poor. We want to challenge you with the moral dilemmas of our time: the sanctity of life, sexuality, human rights issues and social justice. You will learn about the complexities of governance and how best to reach out to the marginalised and disadvantaged. Find your mission.01.

A BOLDER YOUThe education of the whole person is our forte. Just last year, 130 student-leaders tested themselves across mountains and seas on Outward Bound expeditions to Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan, the South China Sea and the Himalayas. We want you to conquer your own limits. Believe in who you can be. We do.

LEADERSHIP FROM WITHINWe empower our students to contribute to local and global communities with the fullest hearts. We call upon our leaders-in-waiting to possess integrity, humility, discernment, initiative, resilience, purpose and the will to nurture others. Our leadership modules cultivate in each CJC student the personal and social literacy skills necessary to be a responsible citizen and contributor.

Leadership opportunities in CJC have grown in scale and scope to match these ambitions. Since 2011, every single Home Tutorial group has designed and implemented their own service learning project from the ground up. Our overseas service learning trips, with the collective effort of 150 students, reached six different beneficiaries across Cambodia, India, Thailand and Vietnam. Their work for the less fortunate truly embodies the CJC spirit of service.

FULL SPIRITSWe are a Catholic school that embraces all faiths. Everyone is welcome to attend morning mass three times a week with our college chaplain Fr Leslie Raj SJ. Our chapel provides a place for contemplation and praise. Our retreats help our students reflect on their faith and place in the world.

RICH TRADITIONSWe cherish our past and colour the present. Our four houses are named after our founders and first principals — Michael, Albert, Patrick and Joseph. Loyalty, competition and fun are led by house captains and sports leaders ready to spread the CJC spirit.

In veritate et caritate.

They say JC life is the hardest and busiest of times. We’d like to think of it as the best of times. A time to be tested. A time to grow. A time with purpose. In CJC, student life is a balance of familiar patterns and upbeat rhythms.

WARM HEARTSYou will begin and end your CJC journey with your home tutorial class and home tutor. Because family runs in our veins you will live, learn and bloom in a tight-knit community. You might just find your best friends for life.
