Tulip Festival MonthMarch 1 - 31Poston Gardens, opening March 2019, will be home to over one million blooming tulips right here in Waxahachie with activities planned throughout the month. WWII Weekend & Reenactment Friday & Saturday held in conjunction with Veteran’s Day

Honoring veterans and their past and continuing sacrifices by

creating a 1940s/WWII atmosphere. The event includes living

history participants in 1940s military and civilian attire, antique

military vehicles, static displays, American and German historical

camps, rare equipment, uniforms, weapons, a “chowline,” a

“Blackmarket” vendor area, reenactment battle for the train

depot and bridge, plus much more.

Historic Sites & MuseumsChautauqua AuditoriumLocated in Getzendaner Park, this auditorium is one of the few

octagonal auditoriums in America. The Chautauqua is open

during special events and during the Gingerbread Trail.

CNB of Texas Money MuseumOne of the most expansive collections of American currency in

the country. This numismatic collection of exhibits and history

features a $5,000 bill and a $10,000 bill on public display during

the bank’s lobby hours. Located at 200 N. Elm.

Ellis County African American Hall of FameBuilt in 1926, the building was historically a Knights of Pythias Lodge that later became the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge. In October 2015, the building reopened as the Ellis County African American Hall of Fame to honor notable locals and provide a venue for meetings, events and classes. Located at 441 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., 214-980-1011.

Ellis County CourthouseBuilt in 1895, this courthouse is listed in the top 100 most

photographed structures in the State of Texas. It features

the Richardsonian Romanesque architectural style. Visit the

Courthouse downtown on the square.

Ellis County Museum

This museum includes the Heritage Visitor Center of Waxahachie.

The museum rekindles the past as it highlights the rich history

of Ellis County. Located at 201 S. College St., 972-937-0681.

Museum hours are: Monday – Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm, and

Sunday,

12 pm – 4 pm.

Historic Downtown DistrictHome to a myriad of antique shops, restaurants, boutiques,

Historic MKT DepotBuilt in 1908 to serve the community

as a stop on the Missouri-Kansas-

Texas rail line for many years,

hauling locally grown cotton to

markets and local soldiers to and

from several wars. Passenger

service was discontinued in 1964

but the depot continued to service

freight trains on their way through

Waxahachie until 1988. In 2007 the

land underneath the depot and the

right-of-way were acquired from the

railroads by the City of Waxahachie.

The City then purchased the depot

building in 2008 and started the restoration project. The

restoration of the MKT Depot was completed in November of

2010. The building is now home to a specialty retail store.

Historic Rogers Street BridgeThis bridge is perhaps the most unique engineering feature in

the historic district. Manufactured by the Wrought Iron Bridge

Company in Canton, Ohio, it was shipped by rail to Waxahachie

and assembled on site. Today, it is a connected piece of the

Waxahachie Creek Hike & Bike Trail.

Joshua Chapel AME ChurchLocated at 110 Aiken, this church is a prominent architectural,

social and religious landmark. This building was designed in

1917 by noted African-American architect William Sidney Pittman.

Sims LibraryAn excellent example of Neoclassical Architecture, this library is

a popular stop on the Waxahachie driving tour. Located at 515

W. Main St., 972-937-2671.

Southwestern Assemblies of God UniversityThis university is located in historic buildings once occupied

by Trinity University, and an example of the Jacobean Revival

architectural style. Located at 1200 Sycamore, 972-937-4010.

Waxahachie Historic CemeteriesCemeteries located throughout the area have many

historic markers.

Courthouse ParkLocated across from the Ellis County Courthousein historic downtown

Established in 2003, provides a rest area, ATM, information

kiosk and restrooms for visitors’ convenience.

Ellis County Veterans Memorial2000 Civic Center Lane

Located outside the Waxahachie Civic Center.

Freedman MemorialLocated on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard

The plaza provides a memorial dedicated to the struggles and

lasting contributions of our east Waxahachie citizens. A large

pavilion, artistic features and a connection to Rogers Spring

Branch Creek are some of the other amenities offered.

Getzendaner Memorial Park2 blocks south of Business 287 (W. Main Street)and Grand Avenue

A peaceful place for your next family picnic, or to use as

an escape to nature after a hectic business meeting. The

Chautauqua Auditorium is also part of the grounds.

Lake WaxahachieLocated 2 miles south of Waxahachie off FM 877

Bring your family, boat and jet skis. Excellent source of fishing

for crappie, white bass, largemouth bass and channel catfish.

Railyard Park 455 S. College St.

Located south of the City’s Central Business District along scenic

Waxahachie Creek, the park provides a downtown venue for

large music events, onstage performances, and other community

events. Other amenities include picnic areas, music garden,

food truck parking, historic appreciation areas and a splash pad.

Waxahachie Creek Hike & Bike Trail

Walk or ride along the beautiful, curvy path of the Waxahachie

Creek and scenic woods for 4 miles. The linear trail stretches

from Getzendaner Park, through the city’s historic cemetery to

Lions Park.

Haunted History TourMeet at the northeast corner of the courthouse square,

across from the Rogers Hotel

A 90+ minute tour where you will learn about the past that

history books like to ignore. Stops include the well-known

Rogers Hotel and Ellis County Courthouse, as well as the

lesser-known addresses around the downtown area. The tour

is informative, interesting and maybe just a little bit spooky!
