Before Installing ERA V 2.0

1. What does WAVE ERA CD/DVD Pack Contain? o Currently WAVE ERA CD/DVD pack contains 7 CDs and 2 DVDs and they are

1. WAVE ERA Framework Installation (CD) 2. Content Loading CD for Diploma in Retail Management (DVD) 3. Content Loading CD for Diploma in Financial Accounting with ERP (CD) 4. Content Loading CD for Diploma in Customer Service Management (CD) 5. Content Loading CD for Diploma in Image Editing (CD) 6. Content Loading CD for Diploma in Content Illustration (CD) 7. Content Loading CD for Diploma in C# Programming (DVD)

2. Can I Install ERA for MS-CIT and WAVE on same machine? o Yes, if your server is having enough space to comply with hard disk space requirement for

MS-CIT and WAVE. Then it can be installed on same machine.

3. What is the recommended setup and prerequisites for installing the WAVE ERA Framework?

o The recommended setup for installing the WAVE ERA is 1. Hard Disk size should be 160 GB as per the recommended hardware setup for WAVE

ALC. 2. WAVE ERA Framework and Course(s) contents will get loaded in C: drive. 3. Please ensure availability of at least 1 GB of free space on your C drive for WAVE ERA

Framework Installation 4. Free space required on your C drive for loading a course depends on the actual size

of the course content. 5. Operating System:- Windows Server 2003 or Window XP with IIS 6.0 or 5.1 6. <Mention service pack> 7. .Net framework 2.0 (This is made available in WAVE ERA Framework Installation CD

and will get installed at the time of installation from the WAVE ERA Framework Installation CD, if not available)

8. MDSE (This will be installed from WAVE ERA Framework Installation CD) 9. Recommended Browser - Internet explorer 6.0 10. Make sure that you have operating systems admin rights for installation.

4. Which is the recommended Operating System for installing WAVE ERA? o Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition is highly recommended for installing the WAVE ERA.

5. Where should I install the WAVE ERA Framework? o ERA V 2.0 should be installed on the server machine of the Local Area Network wherein the

operating system should be Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition or Windows XP.

6. Is there any specification for the number of PC’s in the LAN/LAB/Network? o No, there is no restriction on the number of PC’s in the LAN/Lab/Network. o If ERA is installed on Windows XP then:-

1. Windows XP does not support more than 5 clients. 2. If you want to access the ERA on more than 5 clients/machines then install the ERA

on Windows Server 2003.

7. Does WVAE ERA Framework work in wireless LAN setup/environment? o Yes, ERA works in the wireless LAN/LAB/Intranet environment.


During WAVE ERA Framework Installation

8. Is it required to install .NET Framework and which version? o Yes, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is required to be installed. o .NET Framework 2.0 will get installed at the time of installation from WAVE ERA Framework

Installation CD if it’s not already installed.

9. Is internet connectivity required while installing ERA? o No, Internet connection is not required for WAVE ERA Framework Installation.

10. Is internet connectivity required while activating ERA? o Internet connection is required for WAVE ERA Activation. o Internet connection is also required for downloading the Learner data from Central ERA

Server. (refer WAVE ERA Learning Facilitator Guide for more information)

11. Is it required to install any database application? o MSDE (Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine) will be installed from WAVE ERA Framework

Installation CD if it’s not already installed.

12. Is there any difference between the ERA Installation and WAVE ERA Activation? o Yes, there is difference between the Installation and Activation.

1. Installation: - ALC Installs WAVE ERA Framework from the WAVE ERA Framework Installation CD given by the MKCL, by which the software framework gets installed; however it will be available for use only after its activation

2. Activation: - ALC activates WAVE ERA by clicking the Activate button. Only after activation ALC can use the WAVE ERA.

13. What are the prerequisites for WAVE ERA Activation? o Following are the prerequisites for WAVE ERA Activation

1. Successful installation of ERA 2. Time Zone of the server machine where you are installing the ERA should be Indian

Standard Time (Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta) 3. System date and time of the server machine where you are installing the ERA should

be set to current 4. After doing above changes try to for ERA Activation

14. I have problem while installing the IIS. Insert Disk message is displayed while configuring the IIS. Which CD should I insert?

o If the following screen is displayed to you while configuring the IIS, read the message carefully and insert the Operating System installation CD.


15. While Installing the ERA V 2.0 following error screenshot are displayed, what should be done to resolve this?

This issue comes when ASP.NET user does not have the rights to access the specified file to resolve this issue do the following.

o Go to the C:\inetpub\wwwroot o Select the ERA folder and right click o Go to properties o Select Security Tab a o Add the ASP.NET user and give full access o Click Apply and OK button.


16. How to give administrator rights to ASPNET user and why is it required? While Activating ERA an ASPNET user is required to have the administrative rights. While installing ERA the administrative rights are granted to ASPNET User. But, in case it’s not been granted then user might be prompted to do so while accessing the learning facilitator login or while activation. Following are the steps to do so...

o First :- Go to control panel User Accounts 1. Select ASPNET User 2. Click on Properties 3. Select Group Membership tab 4. Select option - Other 5. Select Administrators from dropdown 6. Click on Apply 7. Restart the machine

o Second:- Go to My Computer Right Click 1. Click on Manage 2. Click on Local Users and Groups

• Users

• Select ASPNET and Right Click

• Click on the Properties

• Click on Member of

• Click on Add

• Type “Administrator”

• Click OK and Apply 3. Restart the machine

If still same problem persist then do the following settings -

o Go to Control Panel 1. Click on Administrative Tools 2. Click on Computer Management 3. On the tree on left hand side of your system, click on System Tools. 4. Click on Local Users and Groups 5. Select Groups folder 6. On right hand side, right click on Administrators 7. Select Add to Group… Click on Add… button 8. Click on Advanced… button 9. Click on Find Now 10. In searched result list in column Name (RDN) Select NETWORK SERVICE

• Click on OK button




11. Now restart your machine and run the ERA-Learning Facilitator shortcut key.

17. While activation after clicking on the activate button nothing happens after that. What to do in this case?

This error comes when active scripting is not enabled in Internet explorer. Do to following to enable it.

1. From the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

2. From the Security tab, click Custom Level.

The Internet icon is highlighted by default.

3. Scroll to Java permissions, click to select High safety.

4. Click OK.


5. Click OK.

6. From the File menu, click Close.

Accessing WAVE ERA

18. While accessing the content using dummy learner login following error is displayed?


o This error comes when eContent is not properly loaded while framework installation. o Some content is loaded while framework installation. If that process is interrupted or is not

executed properly then this error might come.

Do the following to resolve this.

o Insert WAVE ERA Framework Installation CD. o Copy all the folders from “Content” folder o Paste it to following location on Server machine. o C:inetpub\wwwroot\wave-era\wbt\ repositorymanagement\content

19. Which Browser is required for accessing WAVE ERA? o Internet Explorer 6.0 is highly recommended for accessing ERA.

20. What can I do if ERA is not accessible from one of the machine in the network? o Check the LAN connectivity first; check that all PC’s are accessible from the server machine

and vice a versa. o Disable the firewall setting of Client and server. o Try adding URL for accessing ERA V 2.0 Learner login in Trusted and Intranet sites.

21. I have Windows Vista on the Client machine in the network, will there be any problem for accessing the ERA.

o No, there will not be any problem for accessing the ERA V 2.0. o The perquisite for accessing the ERA V 2.0 form the client machines are as follows

1. The client machine should have the Internet Explorer 6.0. o The ERA V 2.0 should be installed on Windows Server 2003, after successful installation ERA

can be accessed from the client machine having Windows vista or Windows XP. o You can access ERA V 2.0 on the client machine using following URL

1. Learning Facilitator:- http://<<server machine name>>/WAVE-ERA/sysindex.aspx 2. Learner :- http://<<server machine name>>/WAVE-ERA/index.aspx


22. I have installed ERA successfully but after two to three days following error is coming?

o The above error comes when the database services for the ERA V 2.0 Application are Stopped or Paused.

o To resolve this problem do the following steps. 1. Go to Start RUN 2. Type “services.msc” 3. And start the services for MSSQL$ERA

23. I have installed ERA successfully but after clicking on the Learning Facilitator icon or on the learner icon following error is displayed?


o The above error comes when the .NET framework 2.0 is not configured for the ERA V 2.0 application.

o To resolve this problem do the following steps. 1. Go to Start RUN 2. Type “inetmgr” 3. Under the Web Sites

• Default Web Sites

• Click on the ERA

• Right Click and select the Properties

• Click on the ASP.NET tab

• Select the ASP.NET version 2.0.50727

• Click Apply

24. I have installed ERA V 2.0 successfully but after clicking on the Learning Facilitator icon or on the learner icon nothing is happening?

o This problem may come when the java script is not enabled. o Go through the following steps

To enable JavaScript in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x or 6.x, perform the following steps:

26. I have installed the ERA successfully on Windows XP, but after accessing the ERA on more than 5 machine/Clients simultaneously it’s not working properly.

o It’s due to the limitation in Windows XP operating System. o Windows XP does not support more than 5 clients. o If you want to access the ERA on more than 5 clients/machines then install the ERA on

Windows Server 2003.

27. I have Installed ERA V 2.0 and downloaded the learners but following error message is displayed while learner login.

o This error comes when the system date is not within the course duration. o To resolve the issue :-

Check the System date and time.

• System date and time should be current and Indian Standard Time respectively.

Or o Re-download the learners and restart the machine and then check. o Also check that you have selected the correct Time Zone (Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi)

while setting date and time.


28. I have installed the ERA successfully but following error message come while using the Data Traveler.

o This error comes when o It is the problem of .NET framework/IIS Registration. o You need to execute the following two commands in command prompt .

Before running the command check the path of .NET framework is correct 1) C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe –i

regsvr 32 2) C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll


29. Thread was Being Aborted Error is coming?

o This error comes when the system is not able to access the files or pages. The request is getting timeout.

o To resolve the issue :- Go to following folder on the Server Machine

C:\inetpub\wwwroot WAVE-ERA

1. Right Click and Click on Security 2. Click on Add Button 3. Now type Network Service and Click on Check name 4. Click Add and Ok button. 5. Give Full Access to this user

Or Go to following folder on the Server Machine

C:\inetpub\wwwroot WAVE-ERA


6. Right Click and Click on Security 7. Click on Add Button 8. Now type aspnet and Click on Check name 9. Click Add and Ok button. 10. Give Full Access to this user

Learner Downloading

30. While downloading the learners following error message is displayed. The error is “remote name could not be resolved: “era.mkcl.org”

o You may encounter this error while IPT data Uploading, following are the steps to resolve it. o This problem occurs because of the DNS server issues with ISP. o Please do the following if the problem persists:

To resolve this, open the host file from C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ Open the host file in Notepad Add the era.mkcl.org as shown in the screenshot


If Windows is installed in D: or E: , then the path will change accordingly. Disable the firewall In case you are using any Antivirus – disable it

o After doing all the settings restart the machine and try to re-download the learners
