Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – Introducing the Year of Genersosity The year 2017 focuses on the element of generosity in our lives as part of Dynamic Catholic, Alive! In his thoughts of generosity, Matthew Kelly mentions that the happiest people he knows are also the most generous people he knows. This is not a coincidence. Generosity is not merely a financial plan for distributing our money to help others. It is about how we spend each moment of every day. It is about how we maximize the gifts that God has given us as good stewards and faithful servants. During this year of focusing on generosity, we encourage you to stop and think how you are managing your time, gifts, and finances so that you may serve others. How much time are you spending using technology instead of with family and friends? Are you using your gifts to spread the faith or for personal gains? How are you spending your money? Let us be like Mary, the Mother of God, the lowly handmaid who brought forth Christ, the salvation of the world. May we imitate her generosity in opening herself to become a vessel for the Lord. archstl.org/dynamic

WORD OF LIFE: Sunday, January 1, 2017 “Perhaps one of your friends has become pregnant unexpectedly. … Your support might be the only support she receives. Even if we never know how, the smallest things we do can change someone's life.” — “10 Ways to Support Her When She’s Unexpectedly Expecting” USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities (www.goo.gl/e60H2Z)

I would like to take this time to thank my church family and friends for making my Thanksgiving

so special in Colorado with my son’s families. Thanks also to my church family for making Christmas so wonderful, and for making my

birthday magical. It was all so good! May the good Lord bless you all.

Love & prayers, Mary C. Boyer

THIS WEEK’S READINGS: The sacred scriptures we hear proclaimed today continue our celebration of the Christmas season. We still have shepherds, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus at the manger in Bethlehem. The first reading recounts a very beautiful blessing from our ancient tradition, and Saint Paul proclaims that we are adopted children of God through Jesus Christ. Let us ponder these readings today, reflecting on them in our heart.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: To whom do I need to bring a special greeting of Christ’s peace, with the assurance of supportive friendship, this New Year’s Day?

There are still some Contribution Envelopes for 2017 on the book shelf by the front door entrance. We encourage you to pick up your box if you have not done so. If you are not receiving envelopes but wish to, please call the rectory office or fill out one of the cards that are lying on the table and drop in collection basket.

Resisting Happiness Are you happy? It may be the wrong question. Most of us think we are relatively happy, while at the same time knowing that we could be happier-maybe even a lot happier. Ordinary people and the finest philosophers have been exploring the question of happiness for thousands of years, and theories abound. But this is not a book of theory. Resisting Happiness is a deeply personal, disarmingly transparent look at why we sabotage our own happiness and what to do about it. What is resistance? It’s that sluggish feeling of not wanting to do something that you know is good for you. It’s the inclination to do something that you unabashedly know is not good for you. It’s the desire and tendency to delay something you should be doing right now. It is resistance that stands between you and happiness. In the pages of Resisting Happiness you will learn not only what it is, but how to recognize and conquer it in your own life. Receive your free copy at one of our Masses this weekend!

EPIPHANY PARTY at St. Michael House on Sunday, January 8th beginning at 2:00 pm. Adults and children are welcome!

delicious goody or make a donation!

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION: THE POPE FRANCIS LIST 1. Don’t Gossip. 2. Finish your meals. 3. Make time for others. 4. Choose the ‘more humble’ purchase. 5. Meet the poor ‘in the flesh’. 6. Stop judging others. 7. Befriend those who disagree. 8. Make commitments, such as marriage. 9. Make it a habit to ‘ask the Lord’. 10. Be happy.

RENOVATIONS AND CHANGES: A lot of renovations and changes have happened around the parish & school campus during 2016! New roofs have been installed on all our buildings throughout due to the generosity of parishioners and businesses! We sincerely thank everyone who had a hand in accomplishing these much needed renovations! We have two projects going on presently. With so much technology being incorporated into our school learning environment and being required in our business office we are having to upgrade our campus wide internet service. In the coming weeks you will see CenturyLink installing a fiber optic cable line. This will require them to lay line from their access point on Pat Daly Road, up through the field, tunneling under the cemetery road at the parking lot and around to the back of the school. Also in January, the parish business office will be moving to the upstairs of the Incarnate Word Center from the Rectory. Work is almost completed on the main office side (which is on the left when you enter from the ramp door). Please be patient with us as we make the transition from the rectory office to the Incarnate Word Center which will take several weeks I’m sure, to get what we need moved over. We will be looking for a good used refrigerator and microwave. We will keep you updated as the work progresses!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION is held on the First Friday of each month from 9 am -5:45 pm at which time there is Benediction. PLEASE TRY TO FIND TIME IN YOUR DAY TO SPEND SOME PRAYER TIME WITH THE LORD, EXPOSED IN THE BLESSED EUCHARIST on this one day a month!

THANK YOU to the St. Anne Sodality and an anonymous donor for donating funds to the Prayer Blanket Ministry for quilt batting for the prayer blankets.
