Warsaw – a few facts

• Warsaw became the capital in 1596 when the King Zygnunt III Waza relocated there from Cracow

• Warsaw is also known as the phoenix city. This is because the city was almost completely destroyed during WWII and with the help of the nation, was rebuilt from scratch.

• Places worth visiting are: The Old Town, The Royal Route, Łazienki Park, Warsaw Rising Museum, Wilanow, Copernicus Science Centre and many…many others.

The symbol of WarsawThe city symbol is Syrenka the mermaid. Her story dates back to the 1300s and is a medieval tale of hospitality.

The Culture PalaceIt is the tallest building in Poland and the eighth tallest building in the European Union. It is 231 metres high.The building was conceived as a "gift from the Soviet people to the Polish nation", and was completed in 1955.Currently it is the headquarters of many companies and public institutions, such as cinemas, theaters, libraries, sports clubs and universities.
