    Dear Adventurers,

Travelling, especially in the company of old and new friends, is perhaps the greatest way to explore

the diverse histories, cultures and peoples of our world. Aboard the M/V Orlova we have charted an

two incredible expeditionary cruises for you and invited an outstanding cast of resource guides to

enrich your experience. Our mission is to fully experience the arts and life ways of the Inuit, while

at the same time reveling in the glorious landscape they call home.

With its ancient history, the Arctic remains a formidable place the stuff of legends and heroes.

Maintaining a deep attachment to its rich and storied past, the Arctic of today and tomorrow is ever

more exciting. The historic land claims agreement that became Nunavut is entering its ninth year.

We are witnesses of a grand experiment an empowering force that ripples throughout the land

and all around the world. Models for community development, social, judicial and educational

advances and above all, the preservation and celebration of Inuit heritage, are putting Canadas

newest territory on the world stage.

2007 / 2008 has been declared the International Polar Year (IPY). Celebrating the 125th

anniversary of this global research initiative, the IPY community will be providing new insights

into global processes, past and present, and coordinating global campaigns with a bipolar focus.

This years agenda will address climate change as measured by local impact and adaptation and

the health and well being of the Inuit communities. As always, we will carry experts in these eldswho will provide insight and challenging dialogue.

The charitable, nonprot Walrus Foundation is dedicated to extending debate on matter vital to

Canadians and to supporting writers , readers, artists and ideas. On our expeditions, well be able to

to that with you and our northern neighbours in both the Canadian Arctic and Greenland.

Forgetting boundaries, we examine the ebb and ow of daily life in the North and the impact that

history has on todays world. Some of these stories are covered in the special all-Arctic issue of

The Walrus, published in November 2007.

Our greatest treasure on these journeys remains the local guests who share their own histories and

perspectives as we journey through their land. Whether artists or lmmakers, cultural ambassadorsor musicians, they leave us a gift that lingers. Join us for a journey of a lifetime as we take pleasure

and delight in the natural history, geology and rich cultural diversity of our north. Were offering

an eclectic mix of entertainment, education and exploration. We believe learning is more engaging

and pleasurable if the mix includes some fun. Through it all, there will be music, art, smart talk and

    good friends.

    Happy Travels,

OttawaCanadas capital city, Ottawa is located in eastern Ontario, at the junctiono three rivers: the mighty Ottawa, the Gatineau and the Rideau. It is hometo the oldest continuously operated canal system in North America, and in2007, the Rideau Canal was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.Connecting Lake Ontario with the Ottawa River, the Rideau Canal ends inOttawa with a set o locks right beside the Parliament Buildings. We will board the Lyubov Orlova andembark on our adventure rom here.

Ungava BayLocated on the northern coast o Quebec, and opening out to theHudson Strait and Labrador Sea, Ungava Bay can claim the highest tidesin the world, tied with the Bay o Fundy in Nova Scotia. Ungava Bayreezes during the winter. At summer breakup, ice oes with seals, polarbears and walrus can be ound oating southward into the bay. We willtravel north towards the tip o Labrador beore making our way across theHudson Strait to Ban Island.

Southeast Ban Island (2 days)Here the mixing o ocean currents rom Hudson Strait, Frobisher Bay and

In this landscape virtuallyunknown to modern travellers, well have opportunities to photograph dog-tongued glaciers spilling to the sea, and mountains sculpted by the ancientLaurentian ice sheet that once covered North America.

Bylot IslandNestled in the northeastern corner o Ban Island, at the entrance toLancaster Sound, Bylot Island boasts bold, rugged coasts, glaciers and aninterior not conducive to habitation. It is prime habitat or seabirds

including Tick-billed Murres and Black-legged Kittiwakes.

Devon IslandSailing through Lancaster Sound we will explore one o the large bays alongthe south coast o Devon Island. Depending on ice conditions, we mightsearch out scenic icebergs, walrus and polar bears, as well as birdlie. Likelysightings are Dovekies, and Black Guillemots, as well as one o the largestFulmar colonies in the eastern Canadian Arctic.

    Beechey Island

In the 1980s, three mens bodies rom the ill-ated Franklin Expedition wereexhumed rom this island. Teir death was determined to be caused by leadpoisoning. Te lead appeared to have come rom the lead-soldered tins oprovisions or the expedition. Tree eerie graves and a cairn marker are allthat remain.

Qausuittuq (Resolute Bay)Arriving in Resolute, we will disembark the Lyubov Orlova and make ourway to our charter ight south.
