VAPORETTO solves allcleaning and hygiene problems without the use of detergents - all that’s needed is just normal tapwater which our system transforms into steam at a constant powerful pressure, allowing you to cleanmore thoroughly and in an ecological way.Our Technical Development team have added a range of sophisticated improvements to makecleaning tasks both safer and more effective:

• The new handle is smaller, lighter, easier to handle and more comfortable to use because you canstart producing steam with just one finger, by lightly pressing a button. HCORRECT USE OF THEPRODUCT

This appliance is intended for home use as asteam cleaner as described and in accordancewith the instructions provided in this manual.Please read these instructions carefully and keepthem, as you may find them useful in future.

Polti declines liability for any damage or ac-cident derived from any use of this appliancewhich is not in conformity with the instruc-tions contained in this booklet.

ATTENTION

The crossed-out wastebasket symbolon the appliance means that at the endof its useful lifespan, the product mustbe disposed of separately from ordi-

nary household wastes. The user is responsible for delivering the ap-pliance to an appropriate collection facility at theend of its useful lifespan. Appropriate separate collection to permit recy-cling, treatment and environmentally compatibledisposal helps prevent negative impact on theenvironment and human health and promotesrecycling of the materials making up the pro-duct. IMPORTANT

Before leaving our factory all our products are ri-gorously tested. For this reason, your VAPO-RETTO may contain some residual water in theboiler from the testing.

PREPARATION FOR USE

• Open the tank cap (A) (Fig.1) and fill the tankwith about 1l of water by using the filler bottle /funnel (14) supplied.This appliance has been designed to workwith normal tap water.However, since water contains limescale bynature, which may cause scaling in the longrun, we recommend using a mixture of 50%tap water and 50% demineralised water ortreated with water softener systems. To usetap water only and avoid scale formation, werecommend the addition of the special naturalscale removal agent Kalstop FP2003.Absolutely do not use distilled water, dryercondensate water, perfumed water, rainwater, battery water, water from air condi-tioning systems and the like. Do not usechemical substances or detergents.

• Carefully close the tank cap (A) to hand tight.• Pull the power supply cable (F) fully out (Fig. 3).• Connect the power supply cable (F) into an

earthed power supply of the correct voltage.

NOTE: when filling, make sure that the waterdoes not overflow, to avoid wetting the surfaceon which your Vaporetto is resting.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

• Press down the generator on/off switch (B)and the accessories on/off switch (C) wich willlight up together with the pressure indicatorlight (K).

• Open the cover of the central connector block(D) and insert the central connector (4) pres-sing the connector button (5) and taking carethat the locking tab (6) is correctly positionedin the lock-in aperture (E) on the block (Fig. 3).

• When the pressure indicator (K) goes off, thesteam cleaner is ready for use.

• The steam gun (2) is equipped with a safetyswitch (2A) which prevents the accidentalstart of the steam jet by children or peoplewho do not know how to operate the ap-pliance.

This unit conforms with EC-directives 2004/108/CE (EMC) and 2006/95/CE(low voltage).

With the switch (2A) in the “OFF” position, thelever controlling the steam jet is locked(Fig.3b). To start working, set the (2A) switchto the “ON” position and press the steam but-ton (Fig.3a).

Should you have to leave the appliance unat-tended, turn it off, unplug it and position thebutton (2A) in the OFF position.

The first burst of steam may contain somewater droplets, due to imperfect thermic sta-bilisation inside the flexible hose. We wouldtherefore advise that the first jet of steam isplayed onto an old cloth until a constantpressure of steam is obtained.

Note: The pressure indicator (K) may go on andoff from time to time during use of VAPORETTO.This means the machine is maintaining the cor-rect and constant pressure and is quite normal.

STEAM REGULATION FEATURE

VAPORETTOs are equipped with a steam regu-lation control (I) (Fig. 4). You can increase thesteam flow by turning the control in clockwise di-rection. Turning it in an anti- clockwise directionreduces the steam flow. Here are some sugge-stions for the choice of steam flow level:• Strong steam: for encrusted dirt, stains,

grease and for sanitising.• Normal steam: for carpets, rugs, glass, tiles

etc.• Delicate steam: for vaporising plants and

cleaning delicate surfaces.

CONNECTION OF ACCESSORIES

All the accessories of VAPORETTO can be con-nected to the handle or to the extension tubesas per the following instructions (Fig. 5):• Move the locking button (11) on the accessory

to the “open” position.• Attach the required accessory to the hand gun

or to the extension tube.• Move the locking button (11) back to the posi-

tion ‘closed’.• Check that the locking button has engaged

and the accessory is fully connected.

LACK OF WATER

Thanks to the self-filling function, there is no lon-ger any need to stop and wait to fill up the boilerthe again.When the water inside the boiler reaches its lowlevel, the level probe will automatically activate apump that will fill the boiler from the tank.When there is no more water left in the self-fil-ling tank, this will be shown by the “out of water”switch (J).In order to continue working, proceed as descri-bed in the section on "Preparation for use".

PRECAUTIONS FOR DELICATESURFACES

• Before treating leather, special fabrics andwood surfaces, consult the manufacturer’s in-structions and always carry out a test on ahidden part or on a sample of the material. Al-low the steamed part to dry to make sure thatno changes in colour or deformations haveoccurred.

• Please pay careful attention when cleaningwooden and treated terracotta flooring as pro-longed use of steam may damage the wax,polish or colour of the surfaces to be cleaned.We therefore recommend adjustment thesteam to minimum (if your appliance hassteam adjustment) and never direct the jet ofsteam directly on the surface, but cover thebrush with a cloth. Do not keep sprayingsteam in the same place.For wooden surfaces (furniture, doors, etc.),we recommend cleaning with a cloth whichhas been steamed previously.

• Also on particularly delicate surfaces (e.g.synthetic materials, lacquered surfaces etc.) itis recommended to always cover the brusheswith a cloth and to use steam to a minimum.

• If cleaning glass surfaces in particularly lowtemperatures preheat the glass using thehand gun from about 50 centimetres distancefrom the surface to be cleaned.

• For care of your plants vaporise at a minimumdistance of 50 centimetres.

PRACTICAL ADVICE FOR THEUSE OF THE ACCESSORIES

STEAM GUN (2)The steam gun can be used directly on all spotsrequiring a stronger, closer treatment withoutconnecting the brushes. The more resistant thestain, the closer you should hold the gun, thesteam pressure and temperature being higher atthe source. Always wipe with a dry cloth (or a sli-ghtly abrasive sponge if the spot is a difficult oneto remove) after using the gun. Steam gun isparticularly efficient at: • Breaking down rug and carpet stains before

they are treated with the large brush;• Cleaning stainless steel surfaces, panes, mir-

rors, enamelled surfaces;• Cleaning hard-to-reach corners, such as

stairs, window sills, door posts;• Cleaning cooking top knobs, taps bases• Cleaning window shutters, heaters, car inte-

riors;• Spraying plants (from a distance);• Removing odours and creases from clothes.To reach higher points, the steam gun can beconnected to one or both extension tubes.

FLOOR BRUSH (8)• To clean floors, attach a dry, clean cloth to the

brush and pass it moving from top to bottomwithout pressing. When one side is dirty, turnthe cloth.

• Use the brush without cloth over dirty or sca-led areas and over tile joints making lateralmovements to lift the dirt.

• For vertical washable surfaces or upholsteryand ceilings, cover the brush with a dry clothand proceed as for the floor.

• On all types of synthetic or wool floor/wall car-pets, as well as area rugs, Vaporetto ensuresmaximum hygiene, giving them back their origi-nal appearance and brightening up the colours.Run the brush without cloth over the surface tomake dirt rise to the surface, cover the brushwith a cotton cloth locking it in the relevant leverhooks (9), then wipe the surface again to collectthe dirt. Proceed rapidly and without pressingover the carpet, running the brush forward,backward and sideways without pausing toolong at the same point. Treatment can be repea-ted as often as you like, with no danger for thesurfaces. The drying is almost immediate. If the

carpet is very dirty or saturated with cleaningproducts, do not to insist too much. Results willbe evident only after a few uses of Vaporetto.

• To clean stubborn stains, before cleaning asindicated above, direct the steam directly ontothe stain with the greatest possible angle (ne-ver vertically to the surface to be treated) andposition a cloth beyond the stain, in order tocollect up the dirt that has been “blown” awayby the steam pressure.

SMALL BRUSH (12)The small brush is used whenever the big brushis too big or not practical to be used.The small brush can be connected directly to thesteam gun or to the extension tubes. The smallbrush can be used on:• Furnishing fabrics (after testing on a small hid-

den area)• Car linings (not pile surfaces), car windows

(not in freezing temperatures) • Small window surfaces• Tile and other small surfacesTo clean wood ( doorposts , floors etc) do notapply the steam directly but cover the brush (bigor small) with a doubled cotton cloth. For furni-ture cleaning, direct the steam jet onto a dry cot-ton cloth, and then start the cleaning. The warmmoisture on the cloth traps the dust, spots andthe static electricity so that the furniture staysclean longer.

120° STEAM NOZZLE (16)The 120° nozzle (which can be connected direc-tly to the gun or together with the extension tu-bes) allows you to concentrate a powerful jet ofsteam to otherwise inaccessible locations, suchas radiators, door posts, sills and shutters, aswell as for sterilising toilet bowls. It’s a very use-ful and indispensable tool.

WINDOW SQUEEGEE TOOL (18-19-20) DO NOT USE STEAM ON GLASS IN FREEZ-ING TEMPERATURESThe window squeegee tool allows you to clean ef-fectively and rapidly all glass surfaces withoutusing detergents. Your glass will remain cleanerlonger thanks to the absence of the film normallyleft behind by chemical cleaning products on whichnew dust and grease can attach themselves.Cleaning glass is done in two stages:• Spray the steam onto the surface to be clea-


ned to loosen the dirt (not touching with theblade).

• Pull the blade straight down the window sur-face from top to bottom without applying thesteam, to take away the dirt.

• For extra abrasive action and more effective re-moval of dirt, we recommend using the bristlessupplied with the large window cleaning kit.

To clean especially large glass surfaces, attachthe window squeegee tool to the extension tubes.

HIGH PRESSURE LANCE (22) (*)This accessory allows you to reach the mostinaccessible places. Ideal for cleaning large ra-diators or shutters etc.

TRIANGULAR BRUSH (23) (*)A new accessory whose shape allows accessinto the most difficult corners.

COLOURED BRUSHES FOR 120° (24) (*)Recommended for removing encrusted dirt fromvery narrow surfaces, such as hobs, blinds, tilegrouting, bathroom fittings, etc.The different colours allow you to always use thesame brush on the same surface.

ACCESSORIES COMPARTMENT(M)

Small accessories can be kept to hand in theconvenient compartment (M) provided (Fig.7).Toopen it, press gently on the word “PUSH” (nearthe bottom of the cover), and open as shown inFig. 8.

PARKING SYSTEM

With the parking system, the brush – with the tu-bes and the flexible hose in place – can be fa-stened to the body of the appliance.Slide theguide on the back of the brush into the grooveon the appliance (Fig. 9).

KALSTOP

Water by its nature contains magnesium, mine-ral salts and other deposits which in hard waterareas can contribute to limescale build up in thetank. In very hard water areas we recommendthe use of our Kalstop FP2003, a special natu-ral-base decalcifier which inhibits and breaksdown limescale. This is a preventive againstscale build-up and protects the metal walls ofthe boiler. Kalstop FP2003 can be found in smallappliance stores, Polti service centres and onthe web site www.polti.com.

PUTTING THE APPLIANCE AWAY

First ensure that the appliance has cooled downcompletely.• Detach the power supply cable plug from the

mains supply.• Press the cable rewind button (L) and guide

the cable all the way back into its housing(Fig. 9).

• Place the small accessories into the compart-ment (M) as described in the “accessoriescompartment” section.

CARE OF YOUR VAPORETTO

• Before carrying out any maintenance on thedevice, always unplug it from the power mainsmaking sure that the product has cooled downbefore proceeding.

• After using the brushes, we recommend let-ting the bristles cool down in their natural po-sition, in order to avoid any deformation.

• To clean the body of the appliance, simply usea moist cloth.

• Regularly check the status of the colouredwasher located in the connector assembly(4). If necessary, replace with the appro-priate spare part (15), as described below.

- Remove the damaged washer. - Insert the new washer, placing it on the steam

nozzle and pushing it until it is in its place. See(Fig. A)

- Lubricate the gasket with silicone grease orVaseline, or alternatively with small quantitiesof vegetable oils.

HMake the same check also on the connec-tion washers of the extension tubes (7)and of the steam gun (2). If necessary, re-place with the appropriate spare part (15),as described below.

- Remove the damaged washer. - Insert the new washer, placing it on the steam

nozzle and pushing it until it is in its place.See (Fig. B).

- Lubricate the gasket with silicone grease orVaseline, or alternatively with small quantitiesof vegetable oils.

IRON ACCESSORY (Q)Vaporetto can be quickly transformed into ahighly effective ironing system to make iro-ning quick and easy. Simply connect the pro-duct to the iron accessory for Vaporetto.• mod. PFEU0013 - Professional IronYou may purchase the iron accessory at anyPolti service centre or from top home ap-pliance retailers.

USE OF IRON

Connect the connector assembly at the end ofthe iron hose (4) to the generator as shown inthe section “Instructions for Use”.Before ironing an item of clothing, always checkthe symbols on its label, for the instructions pro-vided by the manufacturer. Check, based on the following table, the mostappropriate type of ironing:

STEAM IRONING• For STEAM ironing, turn the dial (S) and set

the iron temperature to its maximum travel onthe “COTTON-LINEN” steam position.

• Wait for a few minutes until the “Iron heating” indi-cator light (V) goes out, to show that the soleplateof the iron has reached the required temperature.

• Press the steam request button (R) to enablethe steam to come out. The steam flow willstop when the button is released. After eachfilling, when you first start to use the iron, afew drops of water mixed with the steam maybe emitted (due to imperfect heat stabilisa-tion). It is therefore advisable to direct the firstjet of steam onto a rag.

• The iron can also be used in a vertical posi-tion e.g. for removing creases from curtain,clothing etc

• To obtain a continuous jet of steam move thesliding button (U). The steam will continue tocome out even when the steam request but-ton (R) is released. To stop the steam flowmove the sliding button backwards (U).

NOTE: using the iron, it is advisable to adjust thesteam jet at medium output, or to do some test-ing in order to find the position on (U) which ismost suitable to the fabric to be ironed.

DRY IRONING• If you need to DRY iron (ONLY) (NOT steam

ironing), press the accessory on/off switch (C)and adjust the temperature of the iron by turn-ing dial (S) to the temperature required for thefabric (as shown on the dial).

IMPORTANT• Do not leave the iron unattended whilst

connected to the mains. • Iron only on heat resistant surfaces.

The Steam Disinfector is the sanitiser for hou-sehold surfaces that can connect up to your Va-poretto to deliver steam at high temperatures(up to 180°C) together with the sanitising solu-tion HPMed. The system allows for the elimina-tion of the bacterial, fungous and viral load onthe surfaces and fabrics to which it is applied injust a few seconds. TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM CAUSE SOLUTION

The appliance does not turnon.

Power cable (F) not plugged in

Boiler switch (B) off

Connect the power supply cable (F)to a suitable electric socket.

Turn on the boiler switch (B).

The appliance is on but doesnot supply steam

The appliance is not pressurisedyet

No water in the boiler.

Flexible hose (1) not insertedcorrectly.

Steam adjustment dial (I) set tothe minimum.

Wait for the switch to go off (B).

Fill the boiler as described in the pa-ragraph “Preparation”.

Insert the flexible hose completely.

Adjust the position of the dial (I) forthe desired increase.

Loss of steam from the con-nection of the accessories.

Damaged or missing seals. Replace the seals.
