VPN certificate renewal Viscosity WindowsOverview:This guide will show you, how to install your renewed VPN certificate into theViscosity VPN client on Windows.
Requirements:Windows PCViscosity VPN client installedthe email with your new VPN certificate and password
Step 1
before we can install the renewed certificate, we have to remove the old,outdated certificate
1. click on the Viscosity icon in the systray2. open 'Preferences'

1. select the 'NIvpn' connection2. click on the ' ' icon
Step 3
click on 'Delete' to remove the selected connection
Step 4
start your email client (mostly Thunderbird) and open the email with yourrenewed VPN credentials
Step 5
in this email you'll find two important things:your new certificate password (needed every time you connect)your new VPN certificate
please click on the attached NIvpncertificateFirstname_Lastname.zip
Please note, in some cases you'll receive the VPN password via SMS!
Please note, that this step may look different on other email clients thanThunderbird.
Step 6
1. select to save the attached zipfile2. click on 'OK'

1. select to save the file on your Desktop2. click on 'Save'

1. select the saved NIvpncertificateFirstname_Lastname.zip on yourDesktop and open the context menu by rightclick
2. select 'Extract All...'
Step 9
1. select to 'Show extracted files when complete'2. click on 'Extract'

you'll see the content of the zipfiledoubleclick on the 'NIvpn.ovpn' file to import the new connectiondetails into Viscosity
Please follow these steps exactly! Save the zipfile to your Desktop beforeextracting! If you open the zipfile directly, you will not be able to importthe certificate successfully!

Step 11
Viscosity will show a confirmation, that the new connection details wereimported successfully
click on 'OK'you can now connect to the NI VPN as usualyou can now delete the 'NIvpncertificateFirstname_Lastname.zip' and the'NIvpncertificateFirstname_Lastname' folder from your Desktop
Don't forget to use the new VPN password when connecting

How to uninstall OpenVPN
Step 1
Download the Viscosity VPN client: NI Viscosity VPN Client.exe1. go to your 'Downloads' folder2. open (doubleclick) the downloaded file
Step 2
accept the security warningclick on 'Run'
Step 3
accept the warning from the User Account Controlclick on 'Yes'
Step 4
click on 'Next' to start the installation
Please make sure to uninstall OpenVPN first: How to uninstall OpenVPN
Note, that your downloads can also be located on your Desktop or anotherfolder, depending on the settings on your system.
Step 5
click on 'Install' to continue with the installation
Step 6
accept the installation of the 'SparkLabs VPN Network Adapter' driverclick on 'Install'
Step 7
to complete the installation click on 'Finish'
Step 8
Viscosity will look for a newer version and display an update hintplease download the newer version by click on 'Start Download'

please install the update by click on 'Install Update'
Step 10
accept the installation of the 'SparkLabs VPN Network Adapter' driverclick on 'Install'

You'll find a new icon in the Systray, the Viscosity VPN clientnext step is to add your personal VPN certificate

to connect, 1. click on the Viscosity icon in the systray2. and select 'Connect NIvpn'

1. to establish the connection, please enter your VPN password2. click on 'OK'

If you're located in the Native Instruments facilities, the connection willonly work if you're connected via WiFi.
A VPN connection through a blue ethernet cable is not possible, except inthe conference rooms!
You'll find this password in the email with your VPN certificate or anadditional SMS, your regular NIpassword won't work here!
Step 22
the VPN connection is successful established if you see the 'NIvpn IsConnected' messageto disconnect, click on the Viscosity icon and select 'Disconnect NIvpn'
